Dear All,
Greetings and Namaste. At the outset, let me wish you all a very happy and prosperous Christian New Year 2025! May the year be filled with joy, health, wealth, achievement and contentment in every walk of your life.
Vaikuntha Ekadashi (10-Jan-2025) and Ardra Darshanam (13-Jan-2025) are just one week away, just a few days in between the two. Though Ekadashi is attributed to Lord Narayana and Ardra Darshanam is attributed to Lord Shiva, our scriptures are crystal clear that the Supreme Parabrahman is ONE and HE bears many names for the convenience of devotees and therefore it is a grave sin to differentiate the various forms. We have seen umpteen number of quotations from puranas over the last 2 decades. The Puranas did not stop there - they contain many hymns on multiple forms.
The attached Shankara Narayana Sahasranamam is such a rare Sahasranama (taken from Skanda Purana, Sahyadri Khanda, Sanatkumara Samhita)which contains 500 names of Lord Shiva and 500 Names of Lord Narayana where names on both are mixed in each stanza. The efficacy of reciting this Sahasranama can be seen from the brief Phalashruti.
One who recites this every gets absolved of all sins, poverty and disease and accrues immense wealth and fulfillment of all desires. Not only that, it bestows the benefit of performing thousands of Agnishtoam Yajna and hundreds of Vajapeya Yajna in holy places like Varanasi, Mathura, Gokarna and Prabhasa, bestows the benefit of donating thousands of cows to Brahmins, donating large amount of gold during eclipse time and performing good deeds at very rare auspicious Mahodaya time (a time when the month is Magha, Tithi is Amavasya, Day is Monday, Nakshatra is Shravana and Yoga is Vyatipatam all conjoined together). No need to guess how sacred this Sahasranama is.
I presume this Sahasranama is on Lord Shankaranarayana of Shankaranarayana Temple, Kundapur - Agumbe Highway, Shankaranarayana, Udupi District, Karnataka. Please refer to https://shankaranarayana.org/ . The sthala purana mentioned in this website matches with the preface of this Sahasranama (Kroda Rishi, Sahyadri mountains, Shankaranarayana). I wish I knew about this temple and this Sahasranama last year as I visited many temples in the vicinity of this place. There is yet another famous Lord Shankara Narayana Temple in Tamil Nadu in a place called Sankaran Koil in Thirunelveli District.
May We Chant this Sahasranam during both Vaikunta Ekadashi and Ardra Darshanam and get Bhagavan's blessings!
With best regards,
K. Muralidharan Iyengar (Murali
