The Real Meaning of Peace 
"There once was a king who offered 
a prize to the artist who would paint the best picture of peace. Many 
artists tried. The king looked at all the pictures. But there were only 
two he really liked, and he had to choose between them. 

One picture was of a calm lake. 
The lake was a perfect mirror for peaceful towering mountains all around 
it. Overhead was a blue sky with fluffy white clouds. All who saw this 
picture thought that it was a perfect picture of peace. 

The other picture had 
mountains, too. But these were rugged and bare. Above was an angry sky, 
from which rain fell and in which lightning played. Down the side of the 
mountain tumbled a foaming waterfall. This did not look peaceful at all. 

But when the king looked 
closely, he saw behind the waterfall a tiny bush growing in a crack in the 
rock. In the bush a mother bird had built her nest. There, in the midst of 
the rush of angry water, sat the mother bird on her nest - in perfect 
peace. 
Which picture do you 
think won the prize? The king chose the second picture. Do you know why? 

"Because," explained the king, 
"peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or 
hard work. Peace means to be in the midst of all those things and still be 
calm in your heart. That is the real meaning of peace."

Once upon a time an old man spread rumors that his neighbor was a thief. As a result, the young man was arrested. Days later the young man was proven innocent. After he was released he sued the old man for wrongly accusing him.

In court the old man told the Judge: "They were just comments, they were not meant to harm anyone."

The judge, before passing sentence on the case, told the old man: "Write all the things you said about him on a piece of paper. Cut them up and on the way home; throw the pieces of paper out. Tomorrow, come back to hear the sentence."

The next day, the judge told the old man: "Before receiving the sentence, you will have to go out and gather all the pieces of paper that you threw out yesterday."

The old man said: "I can't do that! The wind spread them and I won't know where to find them."

The judge then replied: "The same way, simple comments may destroy the honor of a man to such an extent that one is not able to fix it. If you can't speak well of someone, rather don't say anything."

Moral: Let's all be masters of our mouths, so that we won't be slaves of our words.

Lt.General of India

After getting freedom, a meeting was organized to select the first General of the Indian?Army. Jawahar Lal Nehru was heading that meeting. Leaders and Army officers were?discussing to whom this responsibility should be given.

?In between the discussion Nehru said, "I think we should appoint a British officer as a General of Indian Army as we don't have enough experience to lead the same."
?
?Everybody supported Nehru because if the PM was suggesting something, how could they not agree?
?
But one of the army officers abruptly said, "I have a point, sir."
?Nehru said, "Yes, gentleman. You are free to speak."
?
?He said ,"You see, sir, we don't have enough experience to lead a nation too, so?shouldn't we appoint a British person as first PM of India?"
?
The meeting hall ?suddenly? went? quiet.
?
Then, Nehru said, "Are you ready to be the first General of the Indian Army??"?

?He got a golden chance to accept? the? offer ?but he refused ?the same? and said, "Sir, we have a very talented army officer, my senior, Lt. Gen. Cariappa, who is the most deserving among us."??
The army officer who raised his voice against the PM was Lt. General Nathu Singh Rathore, the 1st? Lt. General of the Indian Army.?
That? is the professionalism? and? character?? the military is made of .................

Long ago, there was a kingdom in a far away land. The king had an able minister who helped him in his administration.

The minister was a god-loving individual. He had this queer habit.
Whenever something happened, good or bad, he would say, 'God did it only for good'.

One evening, on the dinner table, the minister was sharing dinner with the king. As they were engrossed in discussion, the king, while cutting fruits, accidentally chopped off one of his finger. The king screamed in pain and it bled profusely. The royal doctor was immediately summoned.

Seeing this, the minister, without losing his calm, said, 'God has done this only for good.'. No sooner did the king hear this than he went mad with fury. He yelled, 'How sadistic! Here I am writhing in excruciating pain, and you feel happy for this? I'm suffering and you say it is for good? Have you gone crazy? Are you making fun of me?'
Hearing this, the minister remained calm and repeated, 'God has done this only for good.'

The king's anger knew no heights. He immediately ordered the minister to be imprisoned.

Orders given, the guards rushed in to shackle
the minister. While they took the minister to jail, the minister, without the least excitement or jitter, repeated, 'God is doing this also only for good.' The king thought this guy must have lost his mind. 'How can imprisonment be for good? He must have turned lunatic'.

The next day, the king went to the forest for hunting. He ventured deep into the forest not realizing that he had crossed his country's borders. He had lost his way. Suddenly a host of tribal folk surrounded him. They were performing a worship. Their rites and rituals called for a human sacrifice and they were on the lookout for one. They caught the king and took him for sacrifice. The king pleaded and begged. He used all the tricks in the book to escape from this wild mob, but in vain.

It was a noisy scene. The monstrous tribals were dancing around singing songs and the king was tied to a tree in the center. The chief priest among the tribals came and chanted some
Mantras. He got the king ready for the sacrifice. Just then he noticed that the king had a finger missing. He realized that the king had a defect in his body and hence was not qualified for the sacrifice. Deeming him unfit, they let go of the king.

It was a second life for the king! He was happy that he was left alive and rushed back to his kingdom. As soon as he returned to his palace, he ordered the release of his minister and begged pardon for his act.

He said, 'Had my finger not been chopped off yesterday, I wouldn't have been alive here by now. Those ruthless tribals would have sacrificed me to their god! Now I understand. God did that for my own good!'

The king continued, 'But I am still confused! I ordered to put you in jail and you said, that was for good too! I don't understand that.'

The minister replied, 'Oh My Majesty! Do I not usually accompany you when you go hunting? Imagine what would have happened had I
joined you yesterday? Because you were unfit for the sacrifice, I would have been the scapegoat!'

Then it struck the king's mind, 'God does everything for good'.

What ever happens in our life, pleasant or unpleasant, always happens for good. We may think it as good or bad. But who knows the future? If we have strong faith in God, we can understand that whatever happens is only according to His wish, and He will never do anything bad to us or go wrong.

Buddha & Recyclement

Buddha, one day, was in deep thought about worldly activities and the ways of instilling goodness in human beings.

One of his disciples approached him and said humbly "Oh my teacher ! While you are so much concerned about the world and others, why don't you look in to the welfare and needs of your own disciples also."
Buddha: "OK.. Tell me how I can help you ?"
Disciple: "Master! My attire is worn out and is beyond the decency to wear the same. Can I get a new one, please?"

Buddha found the robe indeed was in a bad condition and needed replacement. He asked the store keeper to give the disciple� a new robe to wear on. The disciple thanked Buddha and retired to his room.

A while later, Buddha went to his disciple's place and asked him "Is your new attire comfortable? Do� you need anything more?"
Disciple: "Thank you my Master. The attire is indeed very comfortable. I need nothing more"
Buddha: "Having got the new one, what did you do with your old attire?"
Disciple: "I am using it as my bed spread"
Buddha: "Then.. hope you have disposed off your old bed spread"
Disciple: " No.. no.. master. I am using my old bedspread as my window curtain"
Buddha: " What about your old Curtain?"
Disciple: "Being used to handle hot utensils in the kitchen"
Buddha: "Oh.. I see.. Can you tell me what did they do with the old cloth they used in Kitchen"
Disciple: "They are being used to wash the floor."
Buddha:" Then, the old rug being used to wash the floor...?"
Disciple: "Master, since they were torn off so much, we could not find any better use, but to use as a wick in the oil lamp, which is right now lit in your study room...."

Buddha smiled in contentment and left for his room.

Observant & success

Be Smart And Observant At Work

Chuan and Jing joined a wholesale company together just after graduation. Both worked very hard.

After several years, the boss promoted Jing to sales executive but Chuan remained a sales rep. One day Chuan could not take it anymore, tender resignation to the boss and complained the boss did not value hard working staff, but only promoted those who flattered him.

The boss knew that Chuan worked very hard for the years, but in order to help Chuan realise the difference between him and Jing, the boss asked Chuan to do the following. Go and find out anyone selling water melon in the market Chuan returned and said yes. The boss asked how much per kg Chuan went back to the market to ask and returned to inform boss the $12 per kg.

Boss told Chuan, I will ask Jing the same question. Jing went, returned and said, boss, only one person selling water melon. $12 per kg, $100 for 10 kg, he has inventory of 340 melons. On the table 58 melons, every melon weighs about 15 kg, bought from the South two days ago, they are fresh and red, good quality.

Chuan was very impressed and realised the difference between himself and Jing. He decided not to resign but to learn from Jing.

My dear friends, a more successful person is more observant, thinks more and understands in depth. For the same matter, a more successful person sees several years ahead, while we see only tomorrow. The difference between a year and a day is 365 times.

Think! how far have you seen ahead in your. life How thoughtful in depth are you.

Story of Dharmavyadapaadha

Namaskarams,

I wanted to bring your attention to a famous and important story from the
Mahabharata. We would have all heard this story in some form or the other
during our childhood but when I re-read it now, it brought out the real
significance of the teachings in it.

The *Vyadha Geeta *appears in the Vana Parva of the Mahabharata and sage
Markandeya recites this story to Yudhishtira. The story talks about a
learned Brahmin living in a forest and how he is taught the essence of
dharma, dedication to duty etc. by a butcher in a nearby town.

This story reiterates my favourite proverb -- work is worship. In life, we
are expected to perform different duties in different phases of life. These
duties are imposed by several factors: society, family, profession etc. The
importance lies in realizing what ones duties are and performing them with
dedication.

There is no point in attaching too much importance in what and how people
lived in the past. They can at best be guiding principles to life in the
present. Two centuries ago, our community had a different function and
standing in society and hence our duties were different.

Change is always a good thing and is a natural thing we cannot escape. It is
important for us to realize that going to office, working hard
professionally etc are imposed by society and these are in no way less that
our earlier duties of learning and chanting from scriptures.

Hence making a value judgement on a person who reads the scriptures vs. a
person who works hard and keeps his family happy are completely wrong.
Practicality and adaptation to change are most important.

Let me write about the actual story I mentioned:

The Brahmin was living an austere life in the forest and had acquired yogic
powers after lots of practice and performing of the necessary austerities.
Once while he meditated sitting under a tree, a bird sitting atop the tree
disturbed the Brahmin by dropping dirt over him. Incensed by this, he look
at the bird with anger and his power was so much that the bird dropped dead.

After this incident, he carried on and went to a nearby village begging for
food. He stood outside a house and called out to the people inside for food.
The housewife was busy inside tending to her husband who was unwell. It took
her some time to come out and offer food to the Brahmin.

The Brahmin was angered by her behavior and told the woman that she should
have either given him food immediately or else should have asked him to go
and not kept him waiting like this. The woman replied telling him -- "Please
do not be angry. I know your anger burnt a bird down but I am no bird".

She also said "*Krodah shathru sharirastho, manushyaanam dvijottama*" (Anger
is not good for the body; it is man's greatest enemy)

The Brahmin was shocked to hear this and asked her how she came to know
about the bird. The housewife said that she did not practice any austerities
but by just doing her duty with cheerfulness and wholeheartedness, she
became illumined.

She then asked him to go to Mithilapuri -- a nearby town and meet
Dharmavyadha (Righteous Butcher). The Brahmin wet to the town and met
Dharmavyadha in his meat-store.

Dharmavyadha told him that he knew the woman had sent the Brahmin to him to
discuss and understand the issues of Dharma. The Brahmin was again amazed by
this. He asked the butcher why he indulged in the occupation of selling meat
while he was so well versed in Dharma. The butcher replied that this was the
profession which his family was engaged in and this was a suitable
profession for him and not improper to his dharma.

And he said:
*Kamakordho vashe kritva*
*Dambham lobhamanarjavam*
*Dharmamityeva santhushtas*
*Te shishta sishtatammatah*
*
*
"Right conduct is achieved through two things: avoiding the vices and
promoting virtues. By taking such an approach we can maintain the right
conduct even after attaining perception"

Nothing is permanent

கங்கையில் ஒரு வியாபாரி குளித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தான்.அப்போது அழகான  கைத்தடி ஒன்று மிதந்து வந்தது.அதை எடுத்துக் கொண்டு கரையை நோக்கி நீந்தினான் அவன்.அப்போது ஒரு நீர்ச்சுழலில் மாட்டிக் கொண்டான்.தப்பிக்கக் கடும் முயற்சி செய்தான்.ஒரு வழியாகப் போராடி உயிர் பிழைத்தான்.ஆனால்  அந்தக் கைத்தடி எங்கோ நழுவிப் போய் விட்டது.

 

கரைக்கு வந்த அவன்  அழகான கைத்தடியை இழந்து விட்டேனே என்று கதறினான்.அங்கு இருந்த ஒரு துறவி,''அய்யா,நீங்கள் குளிக்க வெறுங்கையுடன் வந்ததை பார்த்தேனே? இப்போது கைத்தடியை நழுவ விட்டதாகக் கூறுகிறீர்களே?''என்று கேட்டார். வியாபாரி நடந்ததைக் கூறினான்.

துறவி சொன்னார்,''அய்யா,உங்களைப் பார்த்தால் எனக்கு சிரிப்பு வருகிறது.கங்கையில் கைத்தடி மிதந்து வந்தது.இப்போதும் அது மிதந்து கொண்டு போகிறது.அப்படி இருக்கையில் அது உங்கள் கைத்தடி என்று எப்படிக் கூறுகிறீர்கள்?அந்தக் கைத்தடியை இரண்டு நிமிடங்கள் தங்கள் கையில் வைத்திருந்ததனால் அது உங்களுடையது என்று சொந்தம் கொண்டாட உரிமை பெற்று விட்டீர்களா?''

 

வாழ்க்கையில் எதுவும் நிச்சயமில்லை.பிறக்கும் போது யாரும் எதையும் கொண்டு வருவதில்லை.இறக்கும் போதும் எதையும் கொண்டு போவதில்லை.ஆனால் வாழ்வில் பலவற்றை உரிமை கொண்டாடுகிறோம்.நமது துன்பங்களுக்கெல்லாம் அது தான் காரணம்.

Fwd: A small story

One day a fisherman got up very early in the morning.

There was not enough sunlight to get into the sea.

He saw a pack of stones to pass time.


He started throwing the stone into the sea.

Meanwhile, the sun came up while he still had the last stone in his hand; it was only then he saw that the stone was a diamond and all the stones he had thrown into the sea were diamonds too.


He rued his luck ...

Turtles

 THE TURTLE PICNIC


A turtle family went on a picnic.. The turtles, being naturally slow about
things, took seven years to prepare for their outings.   Finally the
turtle family left home looking for a suitable place. During the second
year of their journey they found it. For about six months they cleaned up
the area, unpacked the picnic basket, and completed the arrangements.

Then they discovered they  had forgotten to bring salt. A picnic without
salt would be a disaster, they all agreed. After a lengthy discussion, the
youngest turtle was chosen to retrieve the salt from home.

Although he was the fastest of the slow moving turtles, the little turtle
whined, cried and wobbled in his shell. He agreed to go on one condition:
that no one would eat until he returned. The family consented and the
little turtle left.

Three years passed-- and the little turtle had not returned. Five
years..six years.. Then in the seventh year of his absence, the oldest
turtle could no longer contain his hunger. He announced that he was going
to eat and began to unwrap a sandwich.

At that point the little turtle suddenly popped out from behind a tree
shouting, "SEE I knew you wouldn't wait. Now I am not going to go get the
salt."

Many of us waste our lives waiting for people to live up to our
expectations of them. We are so concerned about what others are doing that
we don't do anything ourselves

An advice to the mind

Sadhana waved to her neighbor Prema, who was playing with her 8 months old son Harsha, as she walked towards the garden.

" How cheerful small kids are! See this Harsha… he always seems to be so blissful", she thought as she walked to find her mother Kirtana watering plants.

"Ma! How I wish I could be always happy like our little Harsha next door!" said Sadhana as she helped her mother with watering.

"Sadhana! You are not alone in this! Everybody wants just that and is indeed in constant pursuit of such uninterrupted happiness!"

"Ah! But no one seems to be happy always save these little tots who are yet to bear the burden of books and exams!" said Sadhana smiling.

"That's right dear! Everyone wants to be happy, but they know not where to find such happiness unadulterated by even a speck of sorrow. And they shall remain searching forever unless they change the direction of their search!"

"That's interesting ma! What do you mean by changing direction?"

"Sadhana! People think happiness lies in outside things. All that we see in the world are impermanent by nature. Pursuing happiness in these transitory things indeed becomes a source of misery! Unless one turns the search towards that which is imperishable and permanent, one cannot attain absolute happiness."

"And what is that which is permanent and imperishable Ma?"

"Dear! Let me tell you all about this from the Kirtan of our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji. Sri Swamiji lovingly admonishes the 'mind' and tells it a way to attain that Eternal happiness. He says,

Angum ingum uzhalaadiru manamey
Kannan kazhalgalil nilaiyai iru…
Idunaal varai alaindu alaindu kandadu ennavo?
Idai andrey arindirundaal aanandam allavo..

'Oh mind! Stop wandering here and there restlessly!
Be established in the Lotus Feet of Sri Krishna relentlessly!'
'What have you achieved by wandering in all these days of yore?
Bliss would have been yours had you known this before!

Sadhana! In the Bikshu Gita of Srimad Bhagavatam, the bikshu says,

'NAyam jano me sukha dukha hetu: Na devatAtma graha karma kAlA: |
Mana: param kAraNamAmananti samsAra chakram parivartayed yat ||'

He says, none other than my own mind is the cause of all my joys and sorrows.

Sadhana! Indeed it is mind that is essentially the cause for one's joy or sorrow. Mind tries to find happiness in things outside itself, while in reality mind's source is indeed the fountainhead of eternal bliss! And this source is verily the Lotus feet of Sri Krishna!

Mind has to hold on to something to sustain itself. Swamiji asks, 'all these days you have let your mind wander in the worldly pursuits in search of happiness. But have you attained it?' The very fact that we are still searching shows that we have not achieved it! So Sri Swamiji says instead of holding on to things that are perishable (and thus are cause of pain), hold on to the Lotus Feet of Sri Krishna which is permanent, imperishable and the abode of eternal bliss and ever be happy!

Sri Swamji sighs, "Ah! Had one known this secret of happiness one need not have endured pain all these years!"

Since this happiness lies at the source of mind, Sri Swamiji next tells us what mind actually is and how to deal with it!

He says,
Naan enadu irandayum vittu vidu
Kannanidam unnaiye thandu vidu

Give up the thoughts of Me and Mine!
Give yourself to Sri Krishna and say 'Am Thine'!

Sadhana! Mind is nothing but collection of thoughts. The very first thought is the 'I' thought. The feeling of 'I' is the root of all attachment and from this thought springs the feeling of 'Mine'. We are first attached to ourselves and this in turn breeds attachment to things that we feel belong to us – like 'my mother', 'my son', 'my house', 'my friend' etc. These become a source of our joy and sorrow – Joy when desirable things happen to our dear ones and undesirable things happen to our foes, and sorrow when it is the other way round!

All work in the realm of spirituality pertains to subduing this ego! But since its not an easy task, Sri Swamiji says, surrender this ego to Sri Krishna and become a servant of Sri Krishna. Once you submit 'yourself' to His will, all that's 'yours' shall be His and thus we become Sri Krishna's responsibility! The lord takes care of the life of such a devotee in totality! Whatever has to happen to our ego shall also be taken care of by the Lord Himself!"

Sadhana interrupted, "Ah! What kind of faith and surrender this claims!"

Kirtana continued, "Indeed! Why not? Will not the Lord of this Universe take care of us better than we ourselves can? Sri Swamiji asks why worry?

Veenaana visanangalai agatri vidu
Kannan vachanangalai patri vidu

Let go of all unnecessary worries!
Hold on to nectarine words that are of Hari's!

Sadhana! It is ironical that people entrust their lives to pilots, drivers and doctors but hesitate to entrust their lives to Lord Sri Krishna!

Sri Swamiji says, stop worrying about yourself and entrust yourself to the Lord

Once that's done stop worrying about 'how the Lord will take care' or 'will he take care'!

Has not the Lord himself affirmed?
'ananyAshchintayanto mAm ye janA: paryupAsate |
teshAm nityAbhiyuktAnAm yogakshemam vaHAmyaham ||'

'I bear the burden of that devotee of mine who entrusts everything to me and meditates upon me constantly'

Again he says,
'sarva dharmAn parityajya mAmekam sharaNam vraja'
'teshAm aham samuddhartA'
'na me bhaktha pranashyati'

Sri Swamiji says, hold on to these wonderful, soothing and encouraging promises of the Lord in the case of His devotees and be free of all kinds of worries. He shall take care of our life here and hereafter!

And for this should we leave the world? No says our Swamiji!

Patratru ullagil pazhagi iru
Muralidharanaiye sadha patri iru

Move about in the world unattached
Ever to Sri Muralidhara be attached!

Sadhana! Be in the world but not of the world!

Sri Swamiji says 'Hold on to the Lord' and that will naturally loosen the grip we have on the world!

It's like saying to a person holding on to a breaking branch 'hold on to the other branch!' rather than say 'leave this branch!'

Attachment to the Lord is what one should have; dispassion for the things of the world follows naturally!

This indeed is the secret of eternal happiness says our Swamiji!"

எப்போதும் சவாலான செயல்களை செய்ய விரும்பும் பெரும் செல்வந்தர்  ஒருவர் கடற்கரையை சுத்தி பார்க்க போனார். அங்க போனவர் , பீச்-ல இருந்த படகை எடுத்து கடல்ல கொஞ்சம் தூரம் பயணம் செஞ்சு பாக்கலாம்னு தனியாவே கிளம்பிட்டார்.

நேரமோ மாலை ஆறு மணி . ஏற்கனவே இருட்டிடுச்சு. இருந்தாலும் ஒரு தைரியத்துல நம்ம ஆளு படகை செலுத்த ஆரம்பிச்சுட்டார்.

கொஞ்ச  தூரம் போன உடனே மழை பெய்ய ஆரம்பிசுடிச்சு .....இருட்டு வேற ஆயிடுச்சு ....நண்பருக்கு என்ன செய்வதென தெரியவில்லை ... மழையுடன் பலத்த காற்று வேற வீச ஆரம்பிச்சுடிச்சு.....!

இவரோ...தைரியமாக  படகை செலுத்த பலத்த காற்றில் படகு எதோ ஒரு திசையில் நகர்ந்தபடி இருந்தது .....


சுற்றிலும் இருள் ...படகோ திசை தெரியாத கடலில்...

 .....திக்கு திசை இன்றி சென்ற படகு ஒரு மீனவ தீவில் தரை தட்டி நின்றது .

ஆர்வத்துடன் படகை விட்டு இறங்கி சுற்றும் முற்றும் பார்த்துவிட்டு , சற்று தூரத்தில் தெரிந்த விளக்கு வெளிச்சத்தை நோக்கி நடக்கலானார்.


விளக்கு வெளிச்சம் தெரிந்த வீட்டை அடைந்தவர் , அம்மா ......அம்மா ......என அழைக்க ...ஒரு மீனவன் உள்ளே இருந்து எட்டி பார்கிறான் ... உங்களுக்கு யார் வேண்டும் ? என மீனவன் கேட்க ..இவர் தனது படகு பயணத்தை பற்றி விவரிக்கிறார்.

மீனவன் அவருக்கு இரவு உணவை அளிக்கிறார். (மெனு : மீன் குழம்பு , மீன் வறுவல் ). மீன் உணவு சுவையாக இருக்கவும் செல்வந்தர்  மீனவரிடம் ,

மீன் நல்ல சுவையாக உள்ளது ...இதை பிடிக்க உங்களுக்கு எவ்வளவு நேரம் ஆகியது ?

ஒன்றும் அதிக நேரம் எடுக்க வில்லை ...!

நீங்கள் ஏன் அதிக நேரம் எடுத்து நிறைய மீன்கள் பிடிக்க கூடாது ?

"மகனே, நான் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கும் பெண்ணை நீ திருமணம் செய்துகொள்ள வேண்டும்" "நோ, டாடி, என் விருப்பப்படி என் திருமணம் அமைவது நல்லது. பெண்ணைத் தேர்ந்தெடுப்பதை என்னிடம் விட்டு விடுங்கள் "பெண் யாரென்று தெரிந்தால் நீ மறுக்க மாட்டாய்" ஆர்வத்துடன் மகன் கேட்டான்: "யாரது டாடி! "பெண் பில்கேட்ஸின் மகள்" "அப்படியென்றால் டபுள் ஓக்கே டாடி!" காட்சி இரண்டு: அடுத்து அந்தப் பையனின் தந்தை பில்கேட்ஸைச் சந்தித்துப் பேசுகிறார்                                                        "உங்களுடைய மகளுக்கு என்னிடம் ஒரு நல்ல வரன் இருக்கிறது!" தவறாகப்புரிந்துகொள்ளுதல் ஒரு விளக்கம்

 

உறவுகளானாலும் சரி, நட்புகளானாலும் சரி மனம் விட்டுப் பேச முடிந்த அளவு மட்டுமே ஆழப்படுகின்றன. பலம் பெறுகின்றன. மனம் விட்டுப் பேசுவது நின்று போகுமானால் அனுமானங்களும், சந்தேகங்களும் நிஜங்களின் இடத்தைப் பெற்றுக் கொண்டு எல்லாவற்றையும் நிர்ணயம் செய்ய ஆரம்பித்து விடுகின்றன. பின் அந்த உறவுகளில் விரிசல் விழுகின்றன; நட்புகள் துண்டிக்கப்படுகின்றன.
என்றோ படித்த ஒரு வியட்நாமியக் கதை நினைவுக்கு வருகிறது.

ஒரு இராணுவ வீரனும், ஒரு இளம் பெண்ணும் காதலித்துத் திருமணம் செய்து கொள்கிறார்கள். மூன்றே மாதத்தில் போர் ஏற்பட இராணுவ வீரன் போருக்குப் போக வேண்டியதாகி விடுகின்றது. அவன் போகும் போது மனைவி கர்ப்பிணி. இருவருமே மிகுந்த மன வருத்தத்தில் பிரிகிறார்கள். போர் முடிந்து உயிரோடு திரும்புவது நிச்சயமில்லையல்லவா?

ஆனால் அதிர்ஷ்டவசமாக போருக்குப் போன வீரன் மூன்றாண்டுகள் கழிந்து வெற்றிகரமாக திரும்புகிறான்.. விமானதளத்தில் அவன் மனைவியும், மகனும் அவனுக்காகக் காத்திருக்கிறார்கள். மனைவியையும் மகனையும் ஆனந்தமாகக் கட்டியணைத்துக் கொள்கிறான் அந்த வீரன். அவன் கண்ணிலும், மனைவி கண்ணிலும் ஆனந்தக் கண்ணீர்.

வீடு திரும்புகிறார்கள். கணவனுக்குப் பிடித்த சமையல் செய்ய சாமான்கள் வாங்கி வர மனைவி மார்க்கெட்டுக்குச் செல்ல வீட்டில் மகனும், தந்தையும் மட்டுமே இருக்கிறார்கள்.

கூச்சத்துடன் ஒதுங்கி நின்ற மகனைப் பார்த்து வீரன் கேட்கிறான். "அப்பாவுடன் ஏன் பேச மாட்டேன்கிறாய்?"

அந்தச் சிறுவன் குழப்பத்துடன் தந்தையைப் பார்த்து விட்டு சொல்கிறான். "நீங்கள் ஒன்றும் என் அப்பா இல்லை"

வீரன் மகனைக் கேட்கிறான். "பின் யார் அப்பா?"

"தினமும் என் அம்மா நிற்கும் போது நிற்பார். அம்மா உட்காரும் போது அவரும் உட்கார்வார். படுக்கும் போது அவரும் கூடப் படுத்துக் கொள்வார். அவர் தான் என் அப்பா என்று அம்மா சொல்லியிருக்கிறாள்"

வீரனுக்குக் காதில் ஈயத்தைக் காய்ச்சி ஊற்றியது போல இருந்தது.

மனைவி சாமான்கள் வாங்கிக் கொண்டு வந்த பின் கணவனிடம் திடீர் மாற்றத்தைக் கண்டாள். அவன் அவள் சமைத்ததை உண்ணவில்லை. அவளை அவன் தொடவில்லை. அவள் அவன் அருகில் வருவதைக் கூட அவன் மறுத்தான். இரண்டு நாட்கள் இப்படியே நிகழ மனைவி மனமுடைந்து தற்கொலை செய்து கொள்கிறாள்.

மனைவி இறந்த அன்று இரவு தந்தையும் மகனும் படுத்துக் கொள்ளச் செல்லும் போது தந்தையின் நிழலைக் காண்பித்து மகன் சொல்கிறான். "இதோ என் அப்பா"

திகைத்த வீரன் மகனை விசாரிக்கும் போது உண்மை வெளிவந்தது. தாயின் நிழலைப் பார்த்த மகன் ஒரு நாள் இது யார் என்று வெகுளித் தனமாய் கேட்ட போது, மகன் தந்தை அருகில் இல்லாத குறையை உணரக் கூடாது என்று அவள் இது தான் உன் தந்தை என்று சொல்ல சிறுவன் அன்றிலிருந்து அந்த நிழலையே தந்தையாக நினைத்து வந்திருக்கிறான்.

வீரன் தாங்க முடியாத குற்றவுணர்ச்சியாலும், துக்கத்தாலும் மனமுடைந்து போகிறான்.

இந்தக் கதையில் மகன் சொன்னதைக் கேட்ட வீரன் தன் மனைவியிடம் விளக்கம் கேட்டிருக்கலாம்.. மனைவியும் கணவனின் நடவடிக்கைக்கு விளக்கம் கேட்டிருக்கலாம். இருவரும் வெளிப்படையாக மனம் விட்டுப் பேசியிருந்தால் அவர்கள் வாழ்க்கை ஆனந்தமாகச் சென்றிருக்கும். ஆனால் கணவன் தன் மனைவியின் நடத்தை மோசமாக இருந்திருக்கிறது என்று தானாக முடிவெடுத்து அப்படி வெறுப்புடன் நடந்து கொண்டான். மனைவியாவது ஏன் இப்படி நடந்து கொள்கிறீர்கள் என்று அவனைப் பதில் சொல்ல வற்புறுத்தியிருக்கலாம். அப்படிச் செய்யாமல் தானாக வாழ்க்கையை முடித்துக் கொண்டாள். ஒரு குடும்பமே தகர்ந்து போனது வாய் விட்டுக் கேளாமல், மனம் விட்டுப் பேசாமல் இருந்ததனால் அல்லவா?

எதையும் தவறாகப் புரிந்து கொள்ளுவதும், தவறாக ஆக்கி விடுவதும் சுலபம். சந்தேகக் கண்ணாடியை வைத்துப் பார்க்கும் போது எதற்கும் எத்தனை தப்பர்த்தங்களும் நம்மால் காண முடியும். இந்த முட்டாள்தனத்தில் பலியாவது உறவுகளும், நட்புகளும், சந்தோஷங்களும் தான்.

புரியாத போது வாய் விட்டுக் கேளுங்கள். முரண்பாடாக நடந்து கொள்வதாகத் தோன்றும் போது ஏன் என்று வெளிப்படையாகக் கேளுங்கள். நீங்களாக அனுமானிக்காதீர்கள். அதே போல் நீங்களும் வழக்கத்திற்கு மாறாக நடந்து கொள்வீர்களேயானால் ஏன் என்பதை தெளிவுபடுத்துங்கள். அவர்களுக்குப் புரியும் என்று நீங்களாக நினைத்துக் கொள்ளாதீர்கள்.

தவறு என்று நினைப்பதை உங்கள் குடும்பத்தினரிடமும் சரி, நண்பர்களிடமும் சரி கண்டிப்பாகத் தெரிவியுங்கள். அதைக் கேட்டு அவர்கள் சொல்லும் காரணங்கள் நியாயமானவையாகக் கூட இருக்கலாம். அப்படியில்லையென்றாலும் நீங்கள் சொன்ன பிறகு தவறு என்பதைப் புரிந்து அவர்கள் திருத்திக் கொள்ளவோ, மீண்டும் அப்படிச் செய்யாமலிருக்கவோ வாய்ப்புகள் உள்ளன அல்லவா? இப்படி அவ்வப்போதே சரி செய்து கொள்ள வாய்ப்புகள் ஏற்படுத்திக் கொள்வது மனம் விட்டுப் பேசுவதாலேயே சாத்தியமாகிறது. அப்படிச் செய்யாமல் போகும் போது லேசாக எழும் விரிசல் அதே போன்ற தொடர் செய்கைகளால் பெரிதாகிக் கொண்டே வந்து பிரிவினையையே ஏற்படுத்தி விடுகிறது.

எனவே நீண்டநாள் ஆழமான நட்பும், உறவும் நீடிக்க வேண்டுமானால் இந்த தாரக மந்திரத்தை மறந்து விடாமல் கடைபிடியுங்கள்- வாய் விட்டுப் கேளுங்கள். மனம் விட்டுப் பேசுங்கள்.

அனுதின‌மும் ஆனந்தமாய் வாழ்ந்திட‌ வாழ்த்துக்க‌ளோடு, இன்றைய பொழுது இனிய பொழுதாக அமையட்டும்!!..

Hatred

A kindergarten teacher has decided to let her class play a game.
The teacher told each child in the class to bring along a plastic bag containing a few potatoes.
Each potato will be given a name of a person that the child hates,
so the number of potatoes that a child will put in his/her plastic bag will depend on the number of people he/she hates.

So when the day came, every child brought some potatoes with the name of the people he/she hated. Some had 2 potatoes; some 3 while some up to 5 potatoes. The teacher then told the children to carry with them the potatoes in the plastic bag wherever they go (even to the toilet) for 1 week.

Days after days passed by, and the children started to complain due to the unpleasant smell let out by the rotten potatoes. Besides, those having 5 potatoes also had to carry heavier bags. After 1 week, the children were relieved because the game had finally ended....



The teacher asked: "How did you feel while carrying the potatoes with you for 1 week?". The children let out their frustrations and started complaining of the trouble that they had to go through having to carry the heavy and smelly potatoes wherever they go.



Then the teacher told them the hidden meaning behind the game. The teacher said: "This is exactly the situation when you carry your hatred for somebody inside your heart. The stench of hatred will contaminate your heart and you will carry it with you wherever you go. If you cannot tolerate the smell of rotten potatoes for just 1 week, can you imagine what is it like to have the stench of hatred in your heart for your lifetime???"



Moral of the story:
Throw away any hatred for anyone from your heart so that you will not carry sins for a lifetime.
Forgiving others is the best attitude to take!

True love is not loving a perfect person
but loving an imperfect person perfectly!!

Boss first..!!

A Project Assistant, a PhD student and their Principal Investigator are on their way to a conference.. On their way through a park, they
come across a wonder lamp. They rub the lamp and a ghost appears. The
ghost says, "Normally, one is granted three wishes but as you are three,
I will allow one wish each".

So the eager Project assistant shouted, "I want the first wish. I
want to be in the Bahamas, on a fast boat and have no worries."
"Pfufffff"
and he was gone.

Now the PhD student could not keep quiet and shouted " I
want to be in Florida with , plenty of food and
cocktails."
"Pfufffff" and he was also gone.

The PI calmly said, "I want those two idiots back in the
lab after lunch at 1.30pm"

 

Moral of the story is: "Always allow the boss to speak first

WHEN YOU COULD HAVE HEARD A PIN DROP

Veer Savarkar once started addressing a public meeting in Hindi at Bangalore.

The crowd started shouting " Speak in Kannada. We will hear only in kannada."

Veer Savarkar replied " Friends, I have spent 14 years of rigorous imprisonment in ill famous Andaman Jail where all freedom fighters were kept in jail. I have learned Bengali from the freedom fighters coming from Bengal, Hindi from those coming from Uttar Pradesh, even gujarathi and punjabi. Unfortunately there was none from Karnataka from whom I could have learned Kannada."

...and there was pin drop silence.

At a time when the US President and other US politicians tend to apologize for their country's prior actions, here's a refresher on how some former US personnel handled negative comments about the United States.

JFK'S Secretary of State, Dean Rusk, was in France in the early 60's when Charles DeGaule, the French President, decided to pull out of NATO.

DeGaule said he wanted all US military out of France as soon as possible.

Rusk responded "does that include those who are buried here?

The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return.'

A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly: 'Our carriers have three hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people; they are nuclear powered and can supply emergency electrical power to shore facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to feed 3,000 people three meals a day, they can produce several thousand gallons of fresh water from sea water each
day, and they carry half a dozen helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to and from their flight deck. We have eleven such ships; how many does France have?'

A U.S. Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference that included Admirals from the U.S. , English, Canadian, Australian and French Navies.

At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a large group of Officers that included personnel from most of those countries.

Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks when a French admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many languages, Americans learn only English.

He then asked, 'Why is it that we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than speaking French?'

Without hesitating, the American Admiral replied, 'Maybe it's because the Brit's, Canadians, Aussie's and Americans arranged it

Robert Whiting , an elderly US gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane.

At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport in his carry on.

"You have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked sarcastically.

Mr. Whiting admitted that he had been to France previously.

"Then you should know enough to have your passport ready."

The American said, 'The last time I was here, I didn't have to show it."

"Impossible. Americans always have to show your passports on arrival in France !"

The American senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look.

Then he quietly explained, ''Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in 1944 to help liberate this country, I couldn't find a single Frenchman to show a passport to."

The foolish frog?

In this Yuga, three activities are alone enough to attain the Lord –worship in temples, Satsang, and Nama Kirtan. Satsang here, means the reading of Srimad Bhagavatam, listening to the stories and qualities of the Lord, the lives of great Mahans etc.

Even if the first and second are not possible, I can assure you that the Divine Name alone can make you attain God.This is certain and it is the only way!

                                                       The foolish frog?

The
throat of a snake is only as thick as a needle. So when it catches a
prey, it takes a tremendously long time to ingest it. The snake does
not use its tongue to kill its prey. This is because the venom present
in its tongue could prove detrimental to itself. So it only crushes the
prey and ingests it.

When
a frog is caught in the jaws of a snake, it sits there for an extremely
long time (until it is consumed via the snake's throat) alive, not
knowing that it is truly in the jaws of death. In the mean time, the
frog happily sticks out its tongue and tries to catch the flies and
insects to satiate its hunger!

Similarly, we are all in the jaws of the snake called
death. This venomous snake consumes us instant by instant. We have lost
as much percentage of our life to death as our age is! Oblivious of
this fact, we indulge in worldly matters and mundane pleasures akin to
the foolish frog.

Should
we not be afraid of death? Should we not make the best use of our time
and surrender unto the Lord by chanting His Name always?
