GUHAGITA
Chapter Five
Web of Delusion of Maya

The explanation of bound and freed is conditioned; not real. The condition is rooted in Maya; there is neither liberation, nor bondage for you in reality. (5.6)

Hidimbha, I shall tell you in brief the best of all means for the uplift of all the worlds experienced in practice. (5.7)

For one, who has Atma in himself, Liberation is ever attained, if Liberation is in the form of Atma alone. For embodied persons, to consider something which is ever attained as not attained is much delusion indeed. (5.11)

If the other alternative of the highest Liberation is accepted to be in the form of Atma alone, then also Liberation is attainable, or not unattainable, as Atma is ever present. (5.14)
From here onwards the arguments relating to the second alternative of Mukti, Liberation being something not ever-possessed, or, in other words, something to be attained afresh, are taken up in detail.

If that relationship (between Atma and the new found Liberation) is attainable, and if attainable, if we question whether it is eternal, we find that that relationship is not eternal; it can never be eternal. (5.16)

The quality called attainability cannot be dependent on non-existence. If the relationship is eternal, then only it can be called relationship. (5.18)

Mukti, Liberation is certainly ever attained. For the keen seeker of Liberation, it is Atma. Even so, attaining Mukti, which is ever attained, is as earlier. (5.19)
The means of getting rid of delusion of the world and attaining the eternal state, which is our real, ever-present state, has been discussed earlier.

It is truly said that Atma, which is Awareness, is to be attained through direct experience, not through any other means. If Mukti happens in the form of attaining something not available now with the aspirant and if the aspirant's old and new states are identical, that is not logical; the identity of the two states is not possible. Mukti can happen if the distinction between two distinct states is annihilated and identity is established; no doubt. If the distinction continues and yet if identity is said to have been established, it is not logical. (5.20, 21, 22)

If Mukti is unattainable, it does not depend on means. Even if means are present, that Mukti will continue to remain unattainable only. (5.24)
Having discarded everything mentally, also discard that by which you discarded them. You are directly the Self; what more is to be said? (5.43)

Here the second reference in the context of what is to be discarded is actually the mind. With the mind in action, you first discard everything; then discard the base, that is, the mind itself. This is the teaching. Unless mind is destroyed, real Gnana does not dawn.

Thus ends Chapter Five titled 'Mayamohajalam', Web of Delusion of Maya, in Sri GUHAGITA, in the Liberator from Kali, in Brahmavidya, in Advaitashastra, in the dialogue between Guha in the form of Bhikshu and Hidimbha.
