Aditya Hrudaya Stotra Namavali

Dear All,
Greetings and Namaste. Makara Sankranti is just a couple of days away which is dedicated to the worship of Lord Surya. In this context, I am delighted to share Aditya Hrudaya Stotra Namavali. I have endeavored to convert the famous Aditya Hrudaya Stotram by Sage Agastya from Valimiki Ramayanam into a collection of 142 sacred names of Lord Aditya that appear in the stotram so that this can be used for performing Archana to Lord Surya on Makara Sankranti day.

There are two Hrudaya Stotrams on Lord Aditya - one is the famous Aditya Hrudayam in Valmiki Ramayanam and the other is Surya Hrudayam in Kurma Puranam (which I shared more than a decade ago). Aditya Hrudayam extols Lord Surya as the Parabrahman and forms such as Vishnu, Shiva, Brahma are mere embodiments of Lord Aditya as Sage Agastya explains to Lord Rama in that stotra. The entire Saptami Kalpam in Bhavishya Puranam reiterates the concept that Lord Aditya is the Ultimate Being and the entire universe is created and maintained and destroyed through his forms such as Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. The Samba Upa Purana also revolves around this concept.

But Lord Surya is generally referred to as Lord Surya Narayana, as an embodiment of Lord Narayana. But the Surya Hrudayam in Kurma Puranam extols Lord Surya as an embodiment of Lord Shiva

The overarching principle of our sacred texts like Puranas is that the Supreme Being/Parabrahman is ONE and he is called through several names and forms for the convenience of devotees. Only the deluded get confused with various names/forms while the wise see through and understand this basic principle. In other words, our sacred texts impels wise to see the Unity in Diversity within names and forms while the human tendency is to see the Diversity in Unity and fight on frivolous grounds.

May We Pray Lord Aditya with Aditya Hrudaya Stotra Namavali during Makara Sankranti!

Thanks & Regards,
K. Muralidharan Iyengar (Murali)
