GUHAGITA
Chapter Two
Equanimity everywhere
Sri Bhikshu said
Abandoning attachment in mind to feelings of glory of the visible world, you be what you are (your true natural self) and move about sportingly in this world. (2.1)
When one's individual resolve weakens by the understanding that it is one's Atma alone who is the doer on occasions of sorrow, mirth and sport, what is left is equanimity alone. (2.3)
_Verses 2.1 to 2.3 refer to 'Karma' marga, where the stress is on completely abandoning all sense of doership and visualising all acts as being performed by oneself as instrument in the hands of Paramatma.
What is unsurmountable for the capable . Which distance is far for the hard-working . Which country is foreign for the learned . Who is no stranger for the soft-spoken person .
One, whose mind is established in equality toward all beings, which is the state of supreme eternal truth, is not born again. (2.4)
_Verse 2.4 refers to 'Bhakti' marga, where the emphasis is on vision of Paramatma in everything._
Otherwise, abandoning all including doership in all cases and also inaction (indolence), and drinking (quietening and destroying) the mind, be established in your natural state. (2.5)
Verse 2.5 speaks of 'Gnana' marga, or 'Nivritti' marga, where the stress is on 'Neti, neti' (not this, not this), as recommended in Upanishads, i.e. analysing all appearances as false and abandoning them and seeking out the eternal substratum, i.e. Atman.
