नमो विद्व्द्भ्यः
does not perform sandhyavandanam for many years, but resolves to start
doing sandhyavandanam properly, what does he need to do per shastra-s
(dharmashastra-s etc) and shistachar ( the conduct of learned men or peers)
to (re)gain the eligibility to perform sandhya?
In the current time and circumstances (desa, kala, paristhiti) what would
be the appropriate course of action?

It is not clear -- is the person in question is a ब्रह्मचारी - अवकीर्णी -
गृहस्थ ?
In any case since there is विच्छिन्ननित्यकर्म for exceptionally long
period and he is considered a पतित / धर्मच्युत । Also neither any वेद
not any धर्मशास्त्रम् (स्मृतिः) - I take 75 -- prescribes a
प्रायश्चित्तम् for such a specific aspect |
अकुर्वन् विहितं कर्म निन्दितं च समाचरन् ।
प्रसक्तश्चेन्द्रियार्थेषु प्रायश्चित्तीयते नरः ॥ *मनुस्मृतिः , 11-44 *
So प्रायश्चित्तम् is a must .
अवकीर्णी -- अवकीर्णी क्षतव्रतः (*अमरः*) - a ब्रह्मचारी who had sexual
intercourse -- has got separate प्रायश्चित्तम् ।
I shall offer a couple of प्रायश्चित्तानि ( since the देश / काल /
परिस्थिति are not specified) and you may select a suitable and viable one
-- the order is easiest to difficult ---
अनुक्तनिष्कृतीनां तु पापानामपनुत्तये ।
शक्तिं चावेक्ष्य पापं च प्रायश्चित्तं प्रकल्पयेत् ॥ *मनु 11-209*
So if one wants to kill the पाप , for which no प्रायश्चित्तम् is prescribed
, he should create one as per his शक्ति and the amount of पापम् ।
वेदोदितानां नित्यानां कर्मणां समतिक्रमे ।
स्नातकव्रतलोपे च प्रायस्चित्तमभोजनम् ॥ *मनु 11-203*
The following is quoted by *हरदत्त in मिताक्षरा (गौ ध सू 3-1-15 ) *and is
the best --
सव्याहृतिप्रणवकाः प्राणायामास्तु षोडश ।
अपि भ्रूणहणं मासात् पुनन्त्यहरहः कृताः ॥* मनुः 11-248*
= भूर्भुवस्सुवः ओम् + प्राणायाम 16 times - for one month regularly .It
kills even भ्रूणहत्यापाप । ( भ्रूणहत्यां वा एते घ्नन्ति --
*अघमर्षणमन्त्रेषु* ) ।
हरदत्त adds -- होमाः कूष्माण्डहोमादयः प्रसिद्धत्वात् इह अनुक्ताः । *तत्र
श्रुतिः - ' कूष्माण्डैर्जुहुयात् यो'पूत इव मन्येत ' इत्यादि* । *गणहोमस्तु
बोधायनोक्तः*। -- ह*रदत्त is quoting from तैत्तिरीयारण्यकम् -
स्वाध्यायब्राह्मणम्* ।
My father used to suggest कूष्माण्डहोम for such people . (कूष्माण्डः =
white pumpkin ) |
*कूष्माण्डामन्त्राः ( 3 अनुवाकाः -- starting with 1. यद्देवा देवहेळनम् 2.
यददीव्यन्नृणमहम् 3. आयुष्टे विश्वतो'दधत् ) from स्वाध्यायब्राह्मणम्*
(this होम is ultimate) -- यद्देवा देवहेळनं देवासश्चकृमा वयम् ।
आदित्यास्तस्मान्मुञ्चतर्तस्यर्तेन मामित । देवा जीवनकाम्या यद्वाचानृतमूदिम ।
तस्मान्न इह मुञ्चत विश्वे देवास्सजोषसः । ........।
*गौतम (3-1-16)* -- suggests दानम् --
हिरण्यं गौर्वासो'श्वो भूमिस्तिला घृतमन्नमिति देयानीति ।
How much time for जप etc ( *ibid 3-1-17*) - depending on शक्ति etc. --
संवत्सरः षण्मासाश्चत्वारस्त्रयो वा द्वौ वैकश्चतुर्विंशत्यहो द्वादशाहः
षडहस्त्र्य्हो'होरात्र इति कालाः । ( one year - six / four / three /two /
one month -- twenty four / twelve / six / three days -- one day ) |
You need not consult any वेद / शास्त्र / पुराण etc .
We have to encourage children to learn वेद . शास्र etc .and see that they
perform -- नित्य-नैमित्तिक-काम्य-प्रायश्चित्त-कर्माणि । Teach वेदान्त also
in order to save them from निर्वेद ( depression ) |

The boy is my दौहित्र - daughter's son . Now he is 11 yrs (6th Std) -
already learnt गणपतिपूजा , पुण्याहवाचनम् , श्रीसूक्तम् , पुरुषसूक्तम् ,
नीराजनम् , मन्त्रपुष्पम् (लघु - गुरु ) - presently learning रुद्रम्
(नमकम् - चमकम् ) । I am teaching .
Pradyumnasarma (6yrs) , younger one , is going to have his उपनयनम् on 13
Jun 2022 .
Everyone of us should try to revive our आर्यसंस्कृति - सनातनधर्म --
expecting nothing in return .
