विरला जानन्ति गुणान् विरला: कुर्वन्ति निर्धने स्नेहम् ।

विरला: परकार्यरता: परदु:खेनापि दु:खिता विरला: ॥

भावार्थ -  ऐसे विरले सज्जन (बहुत कम ही) होते हैं,  जो दूसरों के गुणों का सम्मान करते हैं, जो निर्धन व्यक्तियों से सम्बन्ध रखते हैं, जो दूसरों के सुख में सुख का अनुभव करते हैं तथा दूसरों का दुःख देखकर दुःखी होते हैं।

Such rare gentlemen (rarely) are those who respect the qualities of others, who belong to the poor people, who experience happiness in the happiness of others and are sad when others see their grief.
