राघवं करुणाकरं मुनिसेवितं सुरवन्दितं
जानकीवदनारविन्ददिवाकरं गुणभाजनं।
वालिसूनुभृदीक्षणम् हनुमत्प्रियं कमलेक्षणं
यातुधानभयङ्करं प्रणमामि राघव कुञ्जरं॥
Raaghavam karunaa-karam muni-sevitham sura-vanditham
Jaanakee-vadanaara-vinda-divaakaram guna-bhaajanam |
Vaali-soonu-bhru-deekshanam, Hanumath-priyam kamalekshanam
Yaathu-dhaana-bhayangkaram pranamaami Raaghava kungjaram ||1||

I offer my humble prostrations to Rama who is endowed with the noble and right royal qualiies of the stately, gracious, powerful, and lordly elephant, to Rama, born in the race of Raghu, to Rama who is full of compassion, to Rama who is adored by great saints and is worshipped by the gods and the celestials , who makes the lotus that is the face of Jaanakee (Seetha) bloom, who is the very Sun that brightens the day, who is the source of the three Gunas -- Sattvam, Rajas and Thamas, to Rama who empowered and elevated to princedom Angada, the son of Vaali, to Rama who bestows love on Hanuman through his own lotus-like eyes, to Rama who is a terror to the ogres and demons.
