- Chelaparambu Nambuthiri
Story behind the verse:
Chelaparambu Nambuthiri, though a great devotee, was very much a slave of the senses even at the age of ninety. One day, while he was in the Guruvayur Krishna temple, a friend reminded him that it was time to give up the pursuit of worldly pleasures and to lead a life fully devoted to Krishna. The poet, then, recited the verse beginning with अब्दार्धेन हरिं, prostrated in front of the idol of Krishna, and never got up. It is said that his pranas left his body at that very moment and his soul merged in Krishna.
