25. A technologist, on his meeting with Acharyal, started a topic on how hi-tech gadgets have been developed everyday with the advancements in science. He ended his talk lamenting about how monotonous his life had been, separated from the Vedantic culture, without time for spiritual pursuits. "Who said you have got separated? You seem to have a better environment to indulge in spiritual pursuits" remarked His Holiness. Bewildered, the man requested for an explanation. "Well," said His Holiness, "Name a gadget that, according to you, is the recent in the market." He named one. "What is its power source?" asked His Holiness. He replied: "Electricity." "I see! What was the power source for the earlier versions?" the Guru enquired. He said, "Electricity." "Don't you see, even mundane technological products are illustrative of the great truth that Atman remains the same whereas the bodies keep changing?" Acharyal continued, "When you look at the fundamental principle behind anything - whether natural or artificial, whether moving or stationary - you will realize there is always a substratum that never undergoes change. Keep thinking along these lines and attend to your work enthusiastically.
