Sati should get up early in the morning , change her dress and with clean dress she must do namaskaara to her husband and then Pati antaryami Parmatma should be worshiped thus ..
In one way this stotra enumerates the qualities that a husband should have or a husband should cater for and strive to achieve these qualities . A woman should look forward to having these qualities in the husband and thus pray for it to HARI .

shloka 1. namaha kantaya bhratre ch shirashchandrasvarupine | namshshantay daantaya sarvadevashrayay ch ||
Oh husband you are my beloved very dear to me . In all circumstances you look after me ,you feed me and protect me , You are my husband , namaskar to you as  blessings of the one having moon on his head are there on you . My husband is always cool shanta towards me . Always engrossed in the mind about HARI , Keeping all his senses under control and he being the abode of all the devatas in his body . I bow before you .
shloka 2.
Oh my husband , ever engaged in the pooja of gunapurna LORD . Pleased Lord has blessed him with the exceptional qualities . He never steps back and is ready to forego everything for me and my happiness . Thus he is eligible for my worship and is respectable to me My mind is steadfast in him and my heart is dependent on him it beats for him .Thus i bow with my head down to my husband my support system .
shloka 3.
my adhidevta of my panchaprana , as if Seeing you[ husband ] with fondness and love is the only duty of my eyes [ my eyes continuously is focussed on you and as such its a festival for my eyes ] . You are the adhaara /foundation for the my knowledge leading to MOksha . Oh Lord as present in my husband you are the real happiness[paramananda] for all satis .
shloka 4.
oh my husband , you have complete blessings of srishtikarta bramha , you are totally subservient to Vishnu , You are blessed by sadashiva the destroyer .You are the refuge that i seek for my qualities .Though I have not strived hard to gain bhakti gyana vairagya but with steadfast knowledge and devotion in HARI you also bestow the same to me out of love and affection making me thus eligible for Bramhanugraha . Thus I bow before you wholeheartedly .
shloka 5.
Whatever mistakes I have done knowingly or unknowingly YOU forgive them all out karunya bhava .This qulaity of yours I always cherish and have faith in you .Husband is the only relative for a wife , You are a ocean of patience and karuna . Thus taking me for your dasi kindly always pardon me in my moments of aparadha .
This stotra was done in the begining of creation  by LAXMIDEVI to HARI . Then SARASAVTI and GANGADEVI others everyday worship their respective husband with this stotra .
This way even savitri has worshipped BRAMHA , PArvati has done stuti of SHANKARA with devotion .
Indra and devata and their wives have worshiped through this stotra . Even wives of munis have benefited with this stotra . Early in the morning reciting this shloka increases pativratya .
If any woman human or otherwise ,even if she listens to this stotra with devotion [this stotra is param punyaprada ] it gives all the desired . This is also good for unmarried girls to listen to get the desired .
Those who are aspiring for children beget children by daily reciting this shloka . Those desirous of wealth become wealthy through this stotra . Diseased gets relief from diseases , imprisoned gets released by reciting this stotra .
This stotra enables a pativrata stree to get all the punya of teerthayatra , it will bring all the benefits of tapasya and it is akin to all the vratas done at a time in giving results . One should always eat only after reciting this stotra .
One must always aspire for a Vishnu bhakta as husband . One who sees a agnihotra bramhin , a pativrata stree , a cow or a deep or yagnyakunda early in the morning never gets misfortunes .
Those who illtreat wife or leave a religiously wedded wife become a woman in the next seven lives and are left by their husbands and also suffer widowhood for next seven births .One must never leave a yogya stree but if one has to leave a dushta stree then one must give her 1/3rd of his property if one does not have any property then one must earn the same upto 1/3rd and then leave . so says yagyavalkya smruti .
The wife who is sahdharmini and satvik should never be left in the young age [ this hsows that in old age she can be left ] yes in the old age if sanyasa has to be taken then she has to be entrusted in the safe hands of her brother or able children and then  take sanyasa . For a vanaprasthi if patni wishes to accompany him to forest then he must  take her to forest too .
One who has left his wife if he wants to atone for his sins then prayashchitta ordained is covering oneself with donkey skin with hairs /pores outside and taking bhiksha from seven houses and eat for next six months ,thus he gets relieved of the sins .
A woman should never ever get married to a qualityless man [ gunaheena ] Vishnu bhakti is the prime guna . EVEN if she has to sit at home as kanya for a long period or till death but avaishnav husband should not be resorted to . One must resist if one of the family memebers , father mother etc force for such marriages and resort to strike till they accept the wish . Shastra accords such a right to kanya .
Thus ends the extract from bramhavaivarta purana
Krishnarpanamastu .

The bell - Shri Krishna Chandra Thakurji

A very interesting story of Lord Krishna that shows the wealth of imagination!

Krishna, the mischievous, along with His friends, was planning for another loot of butter! The gopikas, who were wary of Krishna's pranks, were thinking of ingenious ways of protecting their assets and planning to catch the Thief!

One gopika kept the butter pot on top of other pots and hung those in a 'uri'. She also placed a bell in such a way that the bell would toll when the pot was touched. Poor gopika! She did not realize the capabilities of her Adversary!!

Lord Krishna entered the house of the gopika and saw the arrangement. He climbed on the shoulders of His friends and reached the top. He ordered the bell not to ring when he was removing the butter. The bell had to agree. Krishna removed the butter from the pot and gave it to his friends and the monkeys that came along. He then put some butter into His mouth. Lo! The bell started ringing!!

Lord started questioning the bell.

Hi bell! I opened the lid of the pot. You did not ring. I distributed the butter to the gopalas and yet you did not ring. I distributed the butter to the monkeys; you did not bother to ring. When I took one mouthful of butter, you started ringing. Why was that?

The bell, with all humility said; My Lord. I obeyed your command and did not ring when you opened the lid, removed the butter, distributed to your friends and monkeys. However, when the Bhagavan is taking Bhog (Nivedhyam), is it not my duty to ring?

Radhe Krishna!

=======================
Dear Friends,
Recently I came across two great stotras which are both prayers addressed to Lord Vishnu and aim at cleaning our own body and mind. The phala Sruthi says that they would cure all diseases and that they even are a powerful remedy for black magic. All these depend on one's faith. To those interested in them I have translated both of them and added to my blogs/web sites:-

1.Apamarjana stotram http://stotrarathna.blogspot.com/2011/02/apamarjana-stotram.html
2.Apamarjana Kavacham http://stotrarathna.blogspot.com/2011/01/apamarjana-stotram.html
I have a humble submission. I only want to bring the majestic stotras along with their import in front of you as a translator. I am not requesting you to use them for any purpose. This would depend on your faith and nothing else. Ramachander

=============================
mANikka vAchakar, hearing this name the devotees just think of the love
that is pure and no limits set, taking the human form with its
ex-pression of tears continuously budding on the lotus face expressing
the softness of the heart, the words that were not coined but dragged
out in the flood of love that emerges from a broken dam on seeing the
Dancing Lord. He inspired the spirits of the people of the thamiz
speaking land very deeply to experience by loving the sweetness of the
Unexplorable Supreme. This great saint who developed the spiritual and
religious upliftment is revered as one of the four samayak kuravar
(religious guides). [manikavasagar]

In the pANdiya kingdom which was ruled by the great God Himself as rAja
saun^dhara pANdiyan, near the capitalmadhurai is the town thiruvAdhavUr
were this great one was born. By the time he was sixteen years old he
had well learnt, mastering in the philosophies and the scriptures. He
outstood in the love for Lord shiva and service to His devotees. The
jasmine need no go and advertise its fragrance to all, admirers
automatically turn up to wear it on their head. The pANdiya king
arimardhanan realizing his talent and discipline made him the prime
minister in his court giving him title thennavan biramarAyan. He guided
the governance in the righteous path to the prosperity of the land,
people and their minds. Still his mind was seeking an intellectual guide
who would show in clear light the blissful path to the Truth.

The king heard that high quality horses were on sale in the coast of the
chOza kingdom. He sent the prime ministerthiruvAdhavUrar with lots of
money to buy them. On the way vAdhvUrar reached thirup perun^thuRai
(AvudaiyAr kOvil). There he heard from a garden the sweet chantings hara
hara. The mind that jumps to the corners of the world was lost in that.
He forgot himself and like a piece of iron attracted by the magnet he
went in that direction. There he saw the Lord sitting in the form of a
shaivite sage under a tree elucidating the pupils, to see which Lord
sages observe austerities for births ! His seeking mind was overwhelmed
at the sight of the guru he was yearning for. He surrendered himself to
the Holy guru's feet and pleaded him to accept him as a disciple. The
God who comes voluntarily in the way of devotees to bless them
enlightened him with shivenyAnam. vAdhvUrar who got the immense wealth
of the Supreme knowledge outpoured the gems of hymns to the Glittering
Feet of the Lord offering his body, belongings and soul. (He then sang
the first thiruvAchakam song shivapurANam starting n^amachchivAya vAzka
). The Peerless guide heard the songs and blessed him with the name
mANikka vAchakar (Gem speached). He ordered mANikka vAchakar to build an
abode and disappeared.

With the money he had brought to buy horses that would fight, kill and
die in the battlefields, the devotee built a marvelous temple for the
Lord that would help growing the minds of the seekers in the bliss. Many
days passed. The king sent people to find out what happened. His
attendants reported to him the deeds of the devotee. The king was irked
and sent the message to vAdhavUrar ordering him to come with the horses.
mANikka vAchakar pleaded to the Playful Lord of thirupperun^thuRai. The
Lord assured him that He would bring the horses on the AvaNi mUlam day
and passed through the gem worded saint, a gem to the king as a mark of
assurance. The prime minister mANikka vAchakar told the king about the
arrival of the horses. The king was happy.

The Lord probably wanted to show that patience and perseverance pays in
His worship also, the horses did not arrive till day before the AvaNi
mUlam day. The king got wild and arrested the prime minister. vAdhavUrar
who had the mature vision that when the devotees surrendered themselves
in wholeness to the God the Three eyed Lord is the center of all deeds
they do. He appealed to the Lord singinganRE enRan. The God somasundara
mUrthi who rides the bull of justice in His playful act made the foxes
in the forest as horses, coming in the form of the lead man of the
horses handed over them to the king explaining him the identification
guidelines of good horses ! The Lord went off. The same night the horses
again became foxes and ran all over the capital. The king lost his sense
in the peak of his ire and ordered his men to torture mANikka vAchakar
making him stand on the fry hot sand of the vaigai river loading him
with a rock. The pained devotee with complete trust in the Lord who made
the vaigai river into existence for quenching the thirst of His
attendant, prayed to the Lord.

The Lord who stopped the furious river ga.nga in His matted hair and
allowed it to flow down as a stream blessing the penance ofbhagIrathan
flooded the river vaigai to grace the true love hearted devotee. The
flood entered the streets of the capital. The king ordered the people to
sharedly stop the deluging water by raising the banks. There was a
lonely old poor lady by name van^dhi (1), who practices marvelous love
for the Parentless God with her simple mind and activities. To save her
from getting penalized for not undertaking the king's order, the Lord
came as a laborer. But where is the end for His play ! Instead of
raising the banks he spoilt the work going on there and slept innocently
!! The king was annoyed and beat Him with a stick. But the pain was felt
by all the creatures including the king. The flooding of the river
subdued and the Lord disappeared. The king realized the act of God and
the glory of the saint mANikka vAchakar. He begged for the saint's
pardon. The loveful vAchakar forgave the king and left the prime
ministership.

He went to many abodes of the Lord singing It at thirupperun^thuRai,
uththara kOsamaN^gai, thiruvArUr, thiruvidaimarudhUr, chIrkAzi,
thiruvaNNAmalai, thirukkazukkunRam. Finally he reached the holy abode
thillaich chiRRambalam. He got what the vEdas proclaim, "One gets bliss
(amR^ita) here, even when he/she is alive" on seeing the heart stealing
Lord who dances there to the joy of the seeing eyes. He sang many hymns
on the Lord there.

The budhdhist people who had come from Sri Lanka challenged to come for
a debate on religions. With the Lord's order he took it and answered the
blemishes they were trying to put on the Lord, making a dumb girl sing
His Greatness and the opponents going dumb, he established the Shaivite
glory. The opponents realized the truth of the spiritual science of
shaivam and started worshipping the Outstanding Lord shankara. mANi
vAchakars service to the Lord continued. The Lord was getting anointed
with his honey like words and the pure wonderful love. The Lord wanted
those gems of his hymns which could not be found a peer even the whole
world is excavated to be glorified and passed to generations by
generations to the world for our benefit of getting to praise the Lord
in sweet loveful words easily and even the hardest of the minds getting
nurtured in love reading his hymns. He oneday went to the blessed saint
mANikka vAchakar, asked him to sing the complete thiruvAchakam he had
composed and wrote them down. He further asked him to sing the songs of
love keeping the Dancing Lord of thillai as the Hero the thirukkOvaiyAr.
He wrote them also in the palm leaves book and put His seal as "As
mANikka vAchakan told the Lord of thiruchchiRRambalam wrote this". He
kept the script in the panychAkkara steps of the abode and vanished.

The next day the priests of thillai were surprised to find the scripture
on the steps of the abode with the Lord's signature. They rushed to
mANikka vAchakar and appraised him about it. They saluted and asked him
to explain them the philosophical explanation of the compositions. He
took them to the golden hall abode of the Lord and showed the blissfully
Dancing Lord and said He is the meaning of it and immersed himself in
the Supreme Luminance and became One in Lord shiva. (This day was the
Ani magam day - his guru pUjai day)

The history of this great saint is told in thiruvAdhavUrp purANam(2) and
thiruviLaiyAdal purANam.(3) His composistions are thiruvAchakamand
thirukkOvaiyAr. These hymns are praised for their simplicity, deep sense
of love without losing focus in the description of things.

Today we will remember this great Saint who had an utmost faith and
devotion to LordShivaa which finally made Him to be treated at par with
lordShivaa HIMSELf at Avudiyaar koil a Paunya shethram near Pudukkotai
and Aranthangi.

There the first worship goes to this ShreeMANIKKAWASAGAR & Temple o f
Shiva without a Dwajasthamba Nandi and even Pradoshpooja is not in
celebration

Gayathri & sandhyavandanam

Courtesy : Sri.V.Muralidhar
=====================

It is profitable to see as to what our paramacharya of Kanchi Peetam, has to say
about the above topic. The entire reproduction is from Kamakoti web site:
http://www.kamakoti.org/hindudharma/part17/chap12.htm. This has been repeated in
many forums, but is worth repeating even more:

QUOTE

If the Gayatri has not been chanted for three generations in the family of a
Brahmin, its members lose caste (they cease to be Brahmins). The quarter where
such Brahmins live cannot be called an "agrahara". It is perhaps not yet three
generations since Brahmins gave up the Gayatri. So they still may be called
Brahmins.

In the same way if the Brahmin family has not performed sacrifices for three
generations its members will be called "Durbrahmanas", degenerate Brahmins. Even
though degenerate the label "Brahmin" sticks to them. There are prayascittas
(expiatory rites) by means of which the corrupted Brahmins will be remade true
Brahmins. But there is no such hope for a Brahmin in whose family Gayatri has
not been chanted for three generations. A member of such a family ceases
altogether to be a Brahmin and cannot be made one again. He is just a "Brahmana-
bandhu", a kin or a friend of Brahmins. The same rule applies to Ksatriyas and
Vaisyas with regard to the Gayatri mantra; they become "ksatriya-bandhus" and
"Vaisya-bandhus" respectively.

The spark I mentioned earlier must be built into a fire. The spark by itself
does not serve any purpose. But it has in it the potential to grow into a bright
flame or a radiant fire.

At least on Sundays, all those who wear the sacred thread must do Gayatri japa a
thousand times. They must not eat unclean food, goto unclean places and must
atone for lapses in ritual observances and in maintaining ritual purity.
Henceforth they must take every care to see that their body is kept chaste and
fit for it to absorb mantric power.

Even in times of misfortune the Gayatri must be muttered at least ten times at
dawn, midday and dusk. These are hours of tranquility. At dawn all creatures
including human beings rise and the mind is serene now. At dusk all must be
restful after a day's hard work: that is also a time of calm. At noon the sun is
at its height and people are at home and relaxed and their mind is calm. During
these hours we must meditate on Gayatri, Savitri and Sarasvati. In the morning
the dominant presence is that of Visnu, at noon that of Brahma and at sundown of
Siva. So we must meditate on Gayatri in the morning as Visnu personified, at
noon as Brahma personified and at dusk as Siva personified.

Gayatri contains in itself the spirit and energy of all Vedic mantras. Indeed it
imparts power to other mantras. Without Gayatri-japa, the chanting of all other
mantras would be futile. We find hypnotism useful in many ways and we talk of
"hypnotic power". Gayatri is the hypnotic means of liberating ourselves from
worldly existence as well as of controlling desire and realising the goal of
birth. We must keep blowing on the spark that is the Gayatri and must take up
the Gayatri-japa as vrata. The spark will not be extinguished if we do not take
to unsastric ways of life and if we do not make our body unchaste.

Gayatri-japa and "arghya" (offering libation) are the most important rites of
sandhyavandana. The other parts of this rites are "angas" (limbs). The least a
sick or weak person must do us to offer arghya and mutter the Gayatri ten times.
"Oh only these two are important aren't they? So that's all we do, offer arghya
and mutter the Gayatri ten times a day. " If this be our attitude in due course
we are likely to give up even these that are vital to sandhyavandyana. A learned
man remarked in jest about the people who perform arghya and mutter Gayatri only
ten times thus applying to themselves the rule meant for the weak and the
unfortunate: "They will always remain weak and be victims of some calamity or
other". Sandhyavandana must be performed properly during right hours. During the
Mahabharata war, when water was not readily available, the warriors give arghya
at the right time with dust as substitute.

Arghya must be offered before sunrise at noon and at sunset. Once there was a
man called Idaikattu Siddha who grazed cattle. He said: "Kanamar konamar kandu
kodu adugan pohutu par. " "Kanamal/r" means before you see the sun rise and
"konamal/r" means when the sun is overhead and "kandu" is when you see the sun
before sunset. These are the three times when you ought to offer arghya. "adu"
means "niradu", bathe in the Ganga. "kan" here means "visit Setu" or have " have
darsana of Setu". "Pohutu par"- by bathing in the Ganga and by visiting Setu
your sins will be washed away. Here is mentioned the custom of going to Kasi,
collecting Ganga water there and going to (Setu) Ramesvaram to perform the
abhiseka of Ramanathasvamin there.

Only by the intense repetition of Gayatri shall we be able to master all the
Vedic mantras. This japa of Gayatri and arghya must be performed everyday
without fail. At least once in our lifetime we must bathe in Ganga and go on
pilgrimage to Setu.

If a man has a high fever, people looking after him must pour into his mouth the
water with which sandhyavandana has been performed. Today it seems all of us are
suffering all the time from high fever! When you run a high temperature you have
to take medicine; similarly Gayatri is essential to the self and its japa must
not be given up at any time. It is more essential to your inner being than
medicine is to your body. Sandyavandana must be performed without fail everyday.
Gayatri-japa can be practised by all of us without much effort and without
spending any money. All that you require is water. Sandyavandana is indeed an
easy means to ensure your well being. So long as there is life in you, you must
perform it.

Gayatri must be worshiped as a mother. The Lord appers in many forms to bestow
his grace and compassion on his devotees Mother loves us more than anybody else.
We know no fear before her and talk to her freely. Of all the forms in which
Bhagavan manifests himself that form in which he is revealed as mother is most
liked by us. The Vedas proclaim Gayatri to be such a mother.

This mantra is to be repeated only by men. Women benefit from the men performing
the japa. Similarly when the three varnas practise gayatri-japa all other jatis
enjoy the benefit flowing from it. We may cease to perform a rite if the fruits
yielded by them are enjoyed exclusively by us. But we cannot do so if others
also share in them. Those entitled to Gayatri mantra are to regard themselves as
trustees who have to mutter it on behalf of others like women and the fourth
varna who are not entitled to it. If they fail in their duty of trustees, it
means they are committing an irremediable offence.

The mantras are numerous. Before we start chanting any of them, we say why we
are doing so, mention the "fruit" that will yield. The benefit we derive from
the Gayatri mantra is the cleansing of the mind (cittasuddhi). Even other
mantras have this ultimate purpose, but cittasuuddhi is the direct result of
Gayatri-japa.

Even in these days it is not difficult to perform sandhyavandana both at dawn
and dusk. Office goers and other workers may not be at home during midday. They
may perform the madhyahnika (the midday vandana) 2 hours 24 minutes after
sunrise that is called "sangava kala".

We must never miss the daily sandhyavadana unless we find it absolutely
impossible to perform. When we fall ill, in our helplessness we ask others for
water or kanjiin the same way, we must ask our relative or friend to perform
sandhyavandana on our behalf.

Let us all pray to God that he will have mercy upon us so that the fire of
mantras is never extinguished in us and that it will keep burning brighter and
brighter.

Story of a astrologer

It happened once: A great astrologer fell in a well because he was walking looking at the stars.A woman, a poor woman, who lived close by, ran and somehow helped him to come out.

He was a great astrologer, very famous. He told the poor woman, "You don't know who I am. I am the greatest astrologer, the royal astrologer. My fee is so big that only kings can afford me, or very rich people. But you have saved my life. If you want to know anything about your future, you come to me and I will read your palm, and I will see about your birth chart - and free of cost! You have saved me."

The old woman laughed. She said, "You must be a fool."

He said, "What!?"

And the woman said, "You cannot even see one step ahead of yourself. How can one trust your predictions about the future? You can't befool me!"

And she was right.

The following is a text named shrIlaxmInR^isiMhahR^idayastotra, purporting to be from the bhavishhyottara - purANa. I do not, as of now, declare it a late composition, but I cannot vouched as to the antiquity of this stotra, due to verses 21 - 22 (mention of the gopAlatApanIya) and verse 45 which is subject to interpretation. Later research may establish its status:

Bhakti-part3 - By HH Sri Sri Bharathi Theertha Swamiji

 Courtesy: www.sringeri.net
====================
A common man will find devotion to be the easiest of all the means to attain liberation. Performing Karmas, another means, involves the adherence to many procedures
and it is next to impossible for one to perform all the prescribed rites. Again, not all aspirants are qualified to tread the path of knowledge, the Jnana Marga.
Sadhana Chatushtayam or the fourfold qualification (comprising discrimination, dispassion, the hexad commencing with control of the mind, and intense
desire for liberation) is a sine qua non for the Jnana Marga. The easiest path which is open to all is the Bhakti Marga or the path of devotion. In response
to the query posed by Yudhishtira, "What is that Dharma which is the greatest among all Dharmas?", Bhishma said,

एष मे सर्वधर्माणां धर्मोधिकतमो मत: ।
यद्भक्तया पुण्डरीकाक्षं स्तवैरर्चेन्नरस्सदा ॥

"To worship the Supreme Lord with devotion is the greatest among all Dharmas." This was the reply of Bhishma. In Sri Sankara's commentary on the above verse
of Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam, we find the following points. Performance of Karmas involves adherence to many Vedic injunctions, whereas worshipping the Lord
does not involve such injunctions. There might occur many lapses while performing Karmas.

अविधिना कृतमकृतम्

The Sastras say that improper performance of Karmas is equal to their non-performance. However, this is not the case with the Bhakti Marga. Therefore,
Bhakti Marga is considered the simplest of the paths to liberation. All the limbs of our body are for the purpose of divine worship only.

सा रसना ते नयने तावेव करौ स एव कृतकृत्य: ।
या ये यो यौ भर्गं वदतीक्षेते सदार्चत: स्मरति ॥

Our tongue will attain purity only if it chants the divine names. It cannot become pure by talking about a thousand other issues. Our eyes get their purity
only by beholding the bewitching form of Ishwara in temples and not by other sights. Our hands are for the purpose of performing Puja to Ishwara. If they do
not perform worship, they are not to be called 'hands'. Likewise, our mind should ever contemplate on the lotus feet of Bhagavan. If all the above organs are
used by a person for the purpose of divine worship, he is indeed the most fortunate one.

Sri Sankara Bhagavatpadal wrote in one another hymn -

नारायण करुणामय शरणं करवाणि तावकौ चरणौ ।
इति षट्पपदी मदीये वदनसरोजे सदा वस्तु ॥

"O, Narayana, Compassionate One, Your feet are my refuge. Let my tongue always repeat these six words."

The six words are:

  1. नारायण
  2. करुणामय
  3. शरणं
  4. करवाणि
  5. तावकौ
  6. चरणौ

With verses like the one mentioned above, our ancients have shown us the essence of Bhakti.

Another interesting verse is:

वने चरामो वसु चाहरामो नदीस्तरामो न भयं स्मराम: ।
इतिरयन्तो विपिने किराता मुक्तिं गता रामपदानुषङ्गात् ॥

This verse is said to have been recited by some hunters in a forest. The meaning of the verse is -

  • वने चराम: - We wander in the forest
  • वसु चाहराम: - We bring money
  • नदीस्तराम: - We cross rivers
  • न भयं स्मराम: - We know no fear
We can see that each of the quarters in the original verse contains the word "Rama". It is said that the hunters attained liberation even as they
unknowingly uttered the name 'Rama' four times. I mentioned this merely to highlight the potency of chanting the divine names. Therefore, we must
follow the footsteps of our ancestors and attain divine grace.
I wish that all people in our sacred nation believe in Ishwara. Let there be no atheists at all. Let all our people lead a devoted life and be the recipients
of the blessings of Ishwara. May Sri Chandramouleeswara and Sri Sharadambal fulfil this wish of Mine and bring prosperity to our nation.
I conclude this speech by mentally offering My salutations to My Guru.

हर नम: पार्वतीपतये हर हर महादेव।
जानकीकान्तस्मरणं जय जय राम राम ॥

Bhakti-Part-2- By HH Sri Sri Bharathi Theertha Swamiji

====================

Some people are very keen on performing divine worship. They would be happy if they were allowed to remain in their worship for hours, without any disturbance. In contrast to this, there are some who are too impatient to sit for even ten minutes more in Puja than the usual duration. They ask their Purohit to chant the Sahasranamam fast. During the Puja, their minds think of the engagement they have to attend to after some time. They do not consider it important to focus their attention on Puja even for a brief while. On the other hand, a true devotee is oblivious of the passage of time whenever he sits for worship. Performing Puja is one form of devotion.

There are some devotees who do not feel satisfied even after they have prostrated many times before Bhagavan's idol. They keep doing Namaskarams, while others may feel, "Why do these people repeatedly prostrate before the idol?" Offering salutations too is a form of devotion.

There are some who find delight in always functioning as the servitors of the Lord. Such people would not be keen on performing any other activity. One example of this type of devotion is Sri Anjaneya. His only aim in life was to serve His master, Lord Ramachandra.

Some feel like associating with the Lord as a friend. Is this possible? Yes, it is possible. Arjuna had the opportunity to have Lord Krishna as his dear friend. After beholding the universal form of the Lord, Arjuna submitted to Him.

सखेति मत्वा प्रसभं यदुक्तं
हे कृष्ण हे यादव हे सखेति ।

"O, Lord, I dealt with You thinking of You as my friend. Please pardon me for that sin." Lord Krishna blessed Arjuna with Sreyas or higher good.

There are some devotees who wish to offer all their possessions, including themselves, to the Lord. One example of this is Emperor Bali. Lord Vishnu, incarnated as Vamana, requested Bali to give Him a piece of land covered by three steps. When Bali casually agreed, Lord Vamana covered the entire universe with His first step. The second step covered Akasa. Immediately, Emperor Bali bowed down his head to enable the Lord to place His third step on it. He thereby totally surrendered himself to the Lord. This is Atma Nivedana or self-surrender. If a person does not consider anything as his but considers even himself as belonging to the Lord, it is called Atma Nivedana.

Hearing about the Lord, singing His praise, contemplating Him, serving His lotus feet, worshipping Him, prostrating before Him, serving Him as His slave, moving with Him as His friend and surrendering oneself to Him are the nine forms of devotion spoken of in the Sastras. We shall attain Sreyas even if we practise any one of the above types of devotion. As we have already seen, the examples for the various types of devotion are found in Puranas such as Bhagavata. It is our immeasurable good fortune that has enabled us to come across these descriptions.

If we conduct ourselves without being devoted to Ishwara in any manner, our life will serve no purpose whatsoever. All of us know that human birth is very rare to attain. Hence it is but imperative that we resort to a means like devotion to achieve the purpose of human life. Sri Sankara said -

इत: कोन्वस्ति मूढात्मा यस्तु स्वार्थे प्रमाद्यति ।
दुर्लभं मानुषं देहं प्राप्य तत्रापि पौरुषम् ॥

All of us keep discussing various irrelevant issues. Have we ever thought what constitutes our goal? Have we ever planned as to how to achieve the purpose of our life? What efforts have we made to see that we are not reborn? Instead of contemplating about our salvation we take upon ourselves all the issues in the town and suffer. It is natural for everyone to care for one's own welfare before thinking about others. But in reality we do not seem to care about our own salvation and spend our time on mundane things. This is quite peculiar, indeed.

In this connection, I am reminded of one incident concerning My Parama Guru Sri Chandrasekhara Bharathi Mahaswamigal. He was a great Jivanmukta like Sri Sadasiva Brahmendra. He was always indrawn and engrossed in His own Self. Seldom did He come out for any external activity. The Math agent who was observing this spoke to the Guru at an opportune moment, "Now-a-days You never come out to see the devotees. The devotees come in thousands but return disappointed as they are not able to have Your Darshan. Hence in the interest of the Math, I request You to come out and ask the devotees about their welfare". To this, the Guru retorted, "Let Me first enquire as to who I am. Then I shall enquire about others". Such would be the reply of a person who is always established in Self-enquiry. It is needless to add here that we also must strive to uplift ourselves.

The following is first in a three part series containing an English translation of an Anugraha Bhashanam delivered by Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji
expounding the greatness of Devotion, at Coimbatore during his Vijaya Yatra to Tamil Nadu in 1988.शरदिन्दुविकासमन्दहासां

अरविन्दसमानसुन्दरस्या-

The best means to earn the grace of Ishwara is devotion. No other qualification is needed if one is devoted. That is why Sri Sankara said:

भक्ति: किं न करोत्यहो वनचरो भक्तावतंसायते ॥

Even a hunter in the forest will rise to the level of being respected by all. How? By his devotion. All of us have heard of Kannappa Nayanar. Was he educated or was he orthodox? Was he affluent? No. He had no such qualifications. But his devotion towards the Lord had no parallel.

Kannappa Nayanar once beheld a Sivalinga in the forest. He could see that the Sivalinga had not been worshipped for long by anyone. He decided to do the worship himself. But he did not have any materials for worship. Seeing that the Sivalinga was fully covered by dust, Kannappa wanted to clean it. Lacking anything else to wipe it, he used his sandals for removing the dust from the Linga. There was a river which flowed nearby. Kannappa had no vessel to fetch water from the river for the sacred ablution. His mouth became the vessel to carry the water. He spat the water on the Linga and the Abhishekam was over. He thought for a moment as to what he should offer to the Lord as Naivedya. He decided to offer the meat of the animal which he had hunted just a little earlier. Ishwara happily accepted all these acts of His sincere devotee. Why? Because, Kannappa was extremely devoted. Though the story is not over, at this juncture, I wish to warn some people who might think that they can also do Puja in an unorthodox way as did Kannappa. They may also do so, provided they are capable of performing the most astonishing act that Kannappa subsequently indulged in. In that case, Ishwara may accept the worship of such people notwithstanding their heterodoxy.

After the worship was over, Kannappa noticed that tears of blood were flowing copiously from one eye of the Lord's image. Kannappa was shocked. Thinking that there was something wrong with one of His eyes, Kannappa forcefully plucked his own eye and fixed it on the defective eye of the Lord. Then he noticed that Bhagavan's other eye started bleeding. Kannappa immediately cut out his second eye and placed it on the second defective eye of Ishwara. Ishwara became immensely pleased with His devotee and appeared before him. Kannappa was instantaneously blessed with Moksha. This was the result of Kannappa's sincere devotion.

Devotion is something which is vital for everyone. The Sastras describe various types of devotion. Some find pleasure in listening to discourses relating to Bhagavan. Such people can be found wherever any religious discourse is conducted. This is one type of devotion. Some others desire to continuously chant the holy names of Bhagavan. Such persons do not care about their other activities. We learn from the Bhagavata Purana that the Gopika ladies were extremely devoted to Lord Krishna. A great poet described this in one of his verses.

विक्रेतुकामा किल गोपबाला
मुरारिपादार्पितचित्तवृत्ति: ।
दध्यादिकं मोहवशादवोचद्
गोविन्द दामोदर माधवेति ॥

The Gopikas eked out their living by selling dairy products. They used to house the vessels containing milk and curd in baskets and carry the baskets on their heads. They then entered street after street shouting, "Milk, curds,…", to attract the attention of their customers. One day, a Gopika set out to sell the products. Her mind was so engrossed in chanting the divine names of Lord Krishna that she was heard shouting, "Govinda, Damodara, Madhava…..", instead of "Milk, curds,….". The observers of this scene were surprised and thought that the girl had taken leave of her senses. However, the mind of that girl was thoroughly engrossed in the thought of her Lord. Indeed, if we happen to witness the behaviour of great Jnanis and great devotees, we too may get the feeling that they are insane. I am now reminded of an incident pertaining to the great soul Sri Sadasiva Brahmendra.

Sri Sadasiva Brahmendra was an exalted Jivanmukta. People around him who watched his behaviour thought that he was insane. They proceeded to his Guru and reported, "Your disciple has gone mad". To this, the Guru replied with grief,

"I am only wondering when I can also attain that state. Even though I call myself his Guru, I am yet to attain that state. He is a great soul." So exalted was the state of Sri Sadasiva Brahmendra in which he was absorbed. Likewise, the Gopika girl was totally engrossed in her mental chanting. Reciting the divine names is a form of devotion.

Sage Suka expounded the Bhagavata to King Parikshit. Suka's words never deviated from the main topic, viz., divine play of the Lord. There are some who always remember Ishwara even when they are involved in activities like talking, eating, writing and walking. Contemplation on Ishwara is also a form of devotion. Another form of devotion is serving the lotus feet of Lord. There are many devotees who are ever intent on serving Bhagavan.

Who are u ? Who were u ??

Each Friday night after work, Sardar would fire up his outdoor grill
and cook a tandoori chicken and some meat kebabs. But, all of his
neighbors were strict Catholics ... and since it was Lent, they were
forbidden from eating chicken and meat on a Friday.

The delicious aroma from the grilled meats was causing such a problem
for the Catholic faithful that they finally talked to their Priest.
The Priest came to visit Sardar and suggested that he become a
Catholic.

After several classes and much study, Sardar attended Mass... and as
the priest sprinkled holy water over him, he said, You were born a
Sikh, and raised a Sikh, but now, you are a Catholic."

Sardar's neighbors were greatly relieved, until Friday night arrived.
The wonderful aroma of tandoori chicken and meat kebabs filled the
neighborhood. The Priest was called immediately by the neighbors and,
as he rushed into Sardar's backyard, clutching a rosary and prepared
to scold him, he stopped and watched in amazement.

There stood Sardar, holding a small bottle of holy water which he
carefully sprinkled over the grilling meats and chanted: "Oye, you
were born a chicken, and you were born a lamb, you were raised a
chicken and you were raised a lamb, but now you are a potato and
tomato"..!!!!

The Priest fainted............

Q & A - Muralidhar Swamiji

========================

Radhe Krishna All,

Namadwaar performs special prayers for the hundreds of souls that have lost their lives in the deadly earthquake that hit the coast of Japan. Our heartfelt prayers also go out to the tens of thousands stranded brothers and sisters that have lost their belongings and  near and dear.

As a universal family, let us unite in prayers with Mahamantra, for our beloved siblings who are bearing the brunt of the devastation.  May the wrath of Mother Earth subside and
may Lord Krishna restore peace and calm in their lives

----------------------------------------------------------

"we see that Swami Vivekananda has glorified the Hindu
religion all over the world. No doubt Sri Ramakrishna's penance had been
the reason for this. But what Mantra did Sri Ramakrishna initiate Swami
Vivekananda into? He initiated Vivekananda into the holy 'Rama' Nama.
It is the power of that Divine Name that made him establish this
Universal Religion
of Brotherhood called Hinduism all over the world."

--- SRI SRI MURALIDHARA SWAMIJI
 ------------------------------------------------
I feel Raja yoga is the most appropriate path for me. How do I achieve it while running a family?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

One
should learn the Yoga marga and practice it only under the direct
guidance of an accomplished Yogi. It has several restrictions of which
much
importance is given to Brahmacharya and control of the senses. If it is
not done correctly, it will lead to mental ailments. Following this
path can be likened to tasting honey from the tip of a very sharp knife.
If done very carefully, one may taste the honey. A small error would
result in a severed tongue.

For Raja Yoga, Sage Patanjali is the Guru. He has given formulae known as Patanjali Yoga
sutras which are the very basis of the Yoga marga.

In Patanjaji Yoga sutra 1-23 He says:

"Ishwara
Pranidhaanaad va" which means "The state of yoga is attained by
complete, instant, dynamic, energetic and vigilant surrender of the
ego-principle to the omnipresent ever-existent reality or God.". Thus
one attains the final purpose of yoga marga only through surrender to
God and that surrender can be achieved very easily by simply chanting
the divine names. It is safe, simple, suits all and has no restrictions.

----------------------------------
In
doing Nama kirtan, people need to have appropriate attitude, commitment
and trust in oneself. Do you agree and what are your thoughts?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

If
you have all those, it is well and good.
But do not even worry about all these things. Just chant the
mahamantra, even if mechanically. Slowly the Nama will take control over
you and guide you appropriately.
--------------------------------------
We
have known and read that the curses of those with penance would affect a
person. Does the same hold good for the curse of an ordinary individual
too?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

Yes, it does have some effect, though very miminal.
--------------------------------------
How can one protect himself from the ill-effects of such curses?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

By chanting the Mahamantra always, one can protect himself from all evil.
-----------------------------------------
As a
student, is it important to focus on studies or should one be more devoted towards God?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

There
should be an balanced mix of both. While you concentrate on your
studies and prepare yourself for your future, you also need God's grace.
The simplest way to invoke God's grace is by chanting the Mahamantra
whenever you have time. So, chant the Mahamantra regularly in the
mornings and evenings along with your regular prayers, and concentrate
well on your studies.
------------------------------
In
Garuda Purana there is a description about the various hells in which
the soul suffers after death. When a human dies because of an accident,
his soul is said to suffer from unbearable pain. How can a soul suffer
from pain or unbearable suffering as soul is feelingless and
emotionless?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

Many a time, the soul is confused with the astral body. Let me explain this in a little more detail:

The
human body is only one of the five layers or sheaths of a human being.
Beyond the physical body, there is sheath of 'prana' or the life force.
The sheath of 'manas' or mind is the next layer. Then comes the sheath
of the 'buddhi' or the intellect. Beyond all these four layers is the
'kaarana sarira' or the subtle body.

These are the five sheaths covering the innermost pure Being called as the 'Atman' or 'The Self'.

The
soul is liberated only if these five layers are ripped apart. During
death, only the outer most layer (physical body or the 'sthula sarira')
falls and the other layers remain intact. In English, the body without
the physical form is called astral body. It is this body that enjoys or
suffers the happiness or sorrow in the life after death

If
one successfully sheds all the five sheaths covering the Atman, during his lifetime, he becomes a Jivan Mukta.
-------------------------------
I
have not been into any specific spiritual practices so far. However I
would like to have the darshan of an enlightened sage. Are there any
enlightened sages like Ramana Maharshi or Ramakrishna at present whose
darshan I can have?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

There are enlightened sages even today. However, it might not be of
much use if I name one or two of them. At the right moment, you will
find your Master. We shall pray for you so that you find your Guru soon.
-------------------------------
I
am not able to follow all that my Guru is asking me to do. I am able to
do some chanting, attend satsang etc. but during other
times of the day I want to enjoy life. Will my Guru hate me for being
like this? Will things change gradually or will there be some sudden
shock and change for the better. I am very confused as I am not able to
lead a normal materialistic life nor follow the Guru's prescribed path
fully. Please help.

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

The
rarest of the rare is getting a Uttama Guru. When you have a Guru, you
can peacefully rest. Do not let anything that happens to you or around
you demoralize you.

Accept whatever happens as the divine grace
of the Guru. Every moment of your life should be taken as His gift. Rest
assured that every incident that happens is by His grace and happens
for your well-being.

Gurus are here to make you happy and mentally sound. So do not lose heart.
----------------------------------
Is "Life after Death"
true?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

'Yes' absolutely true.
----------------------------------
How do we believe this?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

When
we sleep at night, the physical body lays still. We dream and we even
see ourselves in the dream. Don't we? In that dream, we walk; we talk;
we see things and we think. That body is known as the astral body
(Manomaya Sharira). When the dream ends as we wake up, the astral body
unites with the physical body. Likewise, when we die, the astral body
leaves the physical body and travels to other planes depending on the
merits and sins committed. This is known s life after death.

Vaishaka Shukla Triteeya i.e, on Akshaya Triteeya Day

Brugu Rushigalu is son of Brahma. He was born for the prajasrusti by
Brahma as Manasaputra. So, he is termed as a prajapathi.
He is the author of "Brugu samhita", the astrological book. Tһе Saint
Bhrigu perfected tһе knowledge οf Hindu predictive astrology. Hе іѕ
supposed tο һаνе cast horoscopes many centuries back tһаt аrе valid
even today.
His wife was Khyati, the daughter of Daksha Prajapathi.
His sons were Dhata, Vidhata, Shukracharya and Chyavana

Sakshaath LAKSHMI DEVI incarated as his daughter by name BHARGAVI.
The ashrama of Bhrigu rishi was in Hoshiarpur
There is a temple on the Banks of Narmada River in Gujarat in the City
of Bharuch.
It is said that SRI VIJAYADASARU is the amsha of BRIGHU Rushigalu

It is said that Brugu Rushigalu was born as an hunter who shoot an
arrow at Krishna, through which Krishna declared samapthi of his
avataara.
Brugu Rushigalu is the Rishi (seer) of mukhyaprANa pratipaadaka Balitthaa sukta.
Brugu Rushi was responsible for bringing Srihari to Kaliyuga in the
form of Srinivasa to Tirupathi.-
Once all gods wanted to prove that Srihari was the supreme. But some
had doubts about Srihari's supremacy. So, all Rushis and Devategalu
requested Brigu Rushigalu to find out who is supreme.
Brugu went to Kailasa, where he saw Parvathi sametha Rudra, who
pretended not to have seen the presence of Brugu at all. So, Brugu
Rushi cursed Rudra not to have his idol worshipped. That is why
Rudradevaru is worshipped in the form of Linga roopa only.
Then Brugu Rushi went to Satya loka, where Brahma also did not noticed
Brugu. Here again Brugu Rushi got anger and cursed Brahma that he
will never be worshipped.
Then Brugu went to Vaikunta where Srihari was being served by Lakshmi.
Brugu rushigalu went to Srihari and kicked him with his foot on his
vakshasthala. As soon as he hit at Srihari, Brugu was done the paada
pooja by Srihari himself and Srihari as he is bhakta paradeena served
to the entire satisfaction of Brugu Rushigalu.
This angered Lakshmidevi as she always stays in the vaksha Sthala of
Srihari where the sage kicked. She went to Karaveerapura. Srihari
went to Bhooloka in search of Lakshmidevi. This is how Brugu was
responsible for bringing Srihari to Bhooloka.

Akshaya Triteeya is the Yugadi Day for Tretaayuga
(Kartheeka Shukla Navami – Kruthayuga Yugadi,
Maagha Amaavasye – Dwapara yuga Yugaadi
Bhadrapada Krishna Trayodashi – Kaliyuga Yugadi
Chaitra Shukla paadya - Starting Day of Srushti)
Akshaya Triteeya -
This is one "swayamssidda" auspious day. There are 3 1/2 muhoorthas
termed as "Swayamsidda". Vijayadashami, Yugaadi, and Akshayatruteeya
and on balipadyami half muhoortha. On these days, dinashuddi,
Vaarashuddi, Nakshatra, karanaadi shuddi need not be enquired. We can
perform Upanayana, Aksharaabhyaasa, devara prathiste, Borewell
digging, annaprashana etc. without looking for Panchanga. Akshaya
Triteeya day, tarpana adhikarigalu should give Tarpana as it is
yugadhi day.
On Akshaya Triteeya Day snaana, japa, homa, svaadhyaaya, pitru
tarpana, daana all will give Akshaya phala.
It is on this day that Sri Vedavyasa devaru began his composition of
Sri Mahabharatha.
It is on this day that Paandavaas received Akshaya Paathra from Sri
Krishna paramathma
This is the Day on which Paramathma made the srusti ofMandodari (One
among the Pancha pathivratheyaru)with the Gandha
It is on this day that Sudama (Kuchela) visited Srikrishna carrying
Avalakki with the intention of asking something. But could not ask
anything with Sri Krishna.
The significance of the three and half auspicious days is that there
is no need to look for auspicious time. Each second on the day is
highly auspicious. The day is chosen for marriages, house warming,
opening of new business and shops and for making investment in
property and valuable items like gold, platinum, diamonds etc.
As per traditional Hindu astrology, the Sun (Surya) and Moon (Chandra)
are astrologically believed to be at their most exalted position on
the day.

Vaishaka Shukla Triteeya is the Sri Parashurama Janma Dina.
Parashurama is the direct incarnation of Srimannaaraayana. Parashurama
or Bhargavaraama is hailed as the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
Since his childhood, he used to move around with his formidable
weapon, Parashu, meaning axe. Therefore he was called PARASHURAAMA.
Parashurama was born to Jamadagni Rushi and Renuka Dampathigalu.
(Jamadagni is the son of Satyavathi and Rucheeka Rushigalu).
Pitru vakya paripalaka Parashurama -
Once Renukadevi, was fascinated by the beautiful lovemaking of
Gandharva Chitraratha with his wives in water, while she went to the
river to fetch water. Her momentary lapse into the enchantment, made
her return home late. Jamadagni, the visionary had already known the
reason of her late-coming and he, was terribly agitated. He asked his
four sons to kill their mother, Renuka as punishment. But they refused
to do so. Only Parashuram, had the courage. He obeyed his father`s
order and killed his mother as well as his four brothers. When
Jamadagni, calmed down, and asked for boon in lieu of his marvelous
devotion to his father, Parashuram entreated Jamadagni to restore life
in the dead bodies. Jamadagni resurrected all. This prayer shows the
love that Parashuram had for his dear ones. Thus Parashurama proved
that he is pitru vakya paripalaka.
In both Raamaavathara & Parashuraamaavatara he showed the Pitru Vakya
Paripalana is everyone's duty.
Parashurama's well known desciples were -
1. Bheeshma - Bheeshma learned for nearly 500 years from Parashurama.
2. Dronacharya - Gurugalu of Pandavaru & Kauravaru
3. Karna - Karna had not told about his Caste (he himself was not
aware of his caste) . Parashurama had taught him all lessons.
Subsequently Parashurama came to know that Karna is a Kshatriya by
birth, and he cursed him that Karna will not remember the Vital Mantra
in the war field. Thus, when Karna and Arjuna square off on
Kurukushetra, Karna loses his life to Arjuna simply because he could
not remember the vital Mantra to invoke Brahmastra
4. Parashurama – Bheeshmacharya –
Amba sought refuge with Parashurama who ordered Bhishma to marry Amba.
Bhishma refused saying that he is ready to leave his life at the
command of his teacher but not the promise that he had made. Upon the
refusal Parasurama called him for a fight at Kurukshetra. At the
battlegrounds, while Bhishma was on a chariot, he saw his guru on the
ground. He requested Parasurama to be equal to him by taking a
chariot and Kavacham Parasurama blessed Bhishma with the power of
divine vision and asked him to look again. When Bhishma looked at his
guru with the divine eye-sight, he saw the Earth as Parasurama's
chariot, the four Vedas as the horses, the Upanishads as the reins,
Vayu as the sarathy (Charioteer) and the Vedic goddesses Gayatri,
Savitri & Saraswati as the Kavacha. Bhishma got down from the
chariot and sought the blessings of Parasurama to protect his dharma,
along with the permission to battle against his teacher. Parasurama
was pleased and said to Bhishma that if he had not behaved in this
manner, Parasurama would have cursed him, for it is the duty of
warriors who fight against elders to not abandon the traditions of
humility and respect for elders. Parasurama blessed him and advised
him to protect his dharma of bramacharya as Parasurama himself must
fight to fulfil his dharma of fighting to uphold his word as given to
Amba. They fought for 23 days without conclusion. Parasurama is a
chiranjeevi (immortal), and Bhishma had a boon that let him choose the
time of his death.
Fight came to an end : On the 22nd night, Bhishma prayed to his
ancestors to help him end the battle. His ancestors gave him a weapon
which was not known to Parasurama. (PLEASE NOTE : Parashurama knows
all the weapons. There is no weapon which is not known to him, as he
is paramathma's incarnation. This is just pretending lokareethya.
)They told him that it would put Parasurama to sleep in the
battlefield. A person who sleeps in the battlefield is considered to
be dead as per Vedas. They advised Bhishma to call back the weapon at
the end of day after sunset so that Parasurama will come back to his
sense and that shall bring the end to war. However the weapon was
never used as Bhishma walked out of the war. Why Parashurama toured
the world 21 times and killed many kshatriyas?
There was a king names Karthaveeryarjuna, King of Mahishmati, son of
Krutaveerya who was a strong devotee of Sri Dattatreya and blessed
with his invincibility. He possessed the strength of a thousand arms
on the battlefront. He had defeated Raavana at war and was reigning at
Mahishmati, full of glory and arrogance.
Once King Karthaveeryarjuna went on hunting and was tired, thirsty and
hungry and came to the Jamadagni Rushi's ashrama. The sage Jamadagni
arranged the entire troup of Karthaveeryarjuna, with a royal feast and
felt very happy. The king enquired the sage as to how come you have
prepared such a delicious food within a short period of time. Then the
sage told him that he has Cow called Kamadhenu which can give anything
we require and because of that only that he could give such a good
food so quick.
Karthaveeryarjuna demanded the cow, but the sage refused to give the
Kamadhenu. Then the king ordered his solders to take away the cow by
force. By that time, Parashurama who had gone out for collecting wood
for Yagna, returned and got angry over the king, went to Mahishmati,
where they had carried the cow and had a fierce fight with the
solders, killed all the solders. Then came the King who had 1000 arms
with the Anugraha of Dattatreya, and the two were engaged in a fierce
battle, finally Parashurama killed the King alongwith his 1000 arms.
He brought back the Kamadhenu.
Jamadagni even though was happy with the return of Kamadhenu, asked
Parashurama to go on a piligrimage tour for the parihaara of the sin
for having killed so many people, which Parashurama accepted.
While Parashurama was away, the sons of the King Karthaveeryarjuna,
attacked Jamadagni Rushi's ashram and killed Jamadagni, who was on a
penace, in front of Renuka and Jamadagni was beheaded and took the
head of the sage to Mahishmati. Parashurama, on his return was angry,
he picked his Axe and marched towards Mahishmati. On reaching the
city, he first butchered the guards at the main entrance. Breaking
down the heavy gate, with his eyes like a couple of fireballs, he
stalked to the palace like an enraged lion. There he destroyed the
whole army, which came to attack him. He killed all the princes,
picked up his father's head and returned to the ashram. There the
children performed all the formalities in honor of the departed soul.
Then Parashurama vowed : "All these kings are evil men. They stole the
cow which had fed them; they killed my father and made my mother
suffer widowhood. This entire kingly class should be destroyed. The
pious cannot live in peace till then. Let me sharpen the axe. I am
going to wipe out the whole lot of them."
Carrying the axe on his shoulder, he toured the earth twenty-one times
chopped off all the anogant Kshatriya, wiping out the entire royalty
and distributed the entire kings' properties to Brahmanaas as daana.
He did not kill those kings who performed religious sacrifices
('yajnas') and kings like Janaka Maharaaja were thus saved; he did not
kill marrying princes, and thus king Dasharatha and others were
spared. He did not attack women. In fact, it is said that upon knowing
that Parashurama would not harm women, some Kshatriya princes donned
the robes of women and escaped amidst female groups. One such person
came to be known a 'Nari-kavacha' (one who sought protection amidst
women.)
Parashurama kShetra –
After touring 21times for kshatriya samhaara, and killing majority of
Kshatriya Kings and got possession of their entire kingdom,
Parashurama made the daana of his entire possession to brahmanas. He
was not left with any place to stay. That is why at the time of making
any daana one should say "Parashuramaaya namaha".
Then Parashurama threw his axe on the western ocean and moved the sea
for some distance, and converted the sealand into land (bhoomi) which
area is called as Parashurama Kshetra.
Eight kshetras which are popularly known as Parashurama kshetras and
are called as 'Parashurama Srishti' are :
Chiplun
Udupi
Subramanya
Kollur
Shankaranarayana
Koteshwara
Kumbasi (Annegudde)
Gokarna
Bhargava Raama and Raghukula Raama –
Sri Raamachandra broke the Shivadhanassu in the "Seetha Swayamvara".
After the broking of Shivadhanassu, Parashurama came near
Sriramachandra and told him to lift his dhanassu. Sriramachandra
lifted the dhanassu with ease and used an arrow to kill the asura
named "atula" who was hiding in Parashurama. This Atula named asura
was knowing that Sri Vishnu will never be defeated. He was blessed
with a vara that he will not die unless Sri Mahavishnu or his avatara
is defeated. So he was hiding in Parashurama, having aware of the fact
that Parashurama is Vishnu's avatara and he will never be defeated.
Parashurama told Sriramachandra (who is other incarnation) to use his
arrow on Parashurama, and pretended to be defeated by Ramachandra,
which prompted Atula to come out of Parashurama and then Rama killed
Atula.

PARASHURAMA as A CHIRANJEEVI -

There is a traditional saying about sapta chiranjeevigalu, which is popular as :
ಆಶ್ವತ್ಥಾಮೋ ಬಲಿವ್ಯಾಸ: ಹನುಮಾಂಶ್ಚ ವಿಭೀಶನ:|
ಕೃಪ: ಪರಶುರಾಮಶ್ಚ ಸಪ್ತೈತೇ ಚಿರಂಜೀವಿನ: |

kRupa: parashuraamashcha saptaitE chiranjeevina: |
आश्वत्थामो बलिव्यास: हनुमांश्च विभीशन:।
कृप: परशुरामश्च सप्तैते चिरंजीविन: ।
Ashwatthama, Bali, Vyasa, Hanuman, Vibhishana, Kripa and Parashurama-
these are the seven eternal, ageless, immortal souls according to our
traditional belief.

It is believed that Parashurama is still doing tapassu at Mahendra
parvatha, for the peace and happiness of the world.
