Once during a rainy season His Holiness was proceeding towards the sacred shrine of Sharada at Sringeri. Enroute He noticed that a couple of devotees standing in the front hall of the samadhi shrines were getting ready to come out to offer their prostration. It had just started raining and unmindful of His getting wet His Holiness instructed those devotees not to come out in rain. His Holiness Himself took a diversion and moved near them. Then He told them, "It's sufficient if you remain here and offer your respects. Why get drenched unnecessarily?" Compassionately accepting their prostrations the sage resumed His walk in the rain until such time an attendant rushed to Him with the traditional umbrella.
