Antidote for envy- HH Bharati Teertha Mahaswamigal

*Source: Illuminating Interactions*

*The book deals with the anecdotes of Jagadguru Sri Bharathi Theertha Mahaswamin*

29. A young man fell victim to jealousy. One day, he happened to listen to a discourse blessed by His Holiness, where His Holiness advised a way to win over jealousy. He said, "Cultivate the habit of feeling happy about the other person's success. If possible you should also go to the person and wholeheartedly say, I'm so happy about your success in life. I'm proud to be your friend'."

The young man thought, "This Swamiji seems to be highly impractical. Who will be able to do this? And even if anyone does as instructed, won't the other suspect one's motive?"

After a few weeks, when a friend of his gained an unexpected success in his business, he again felt the sting of jealousy. Reminded of His Holiness' words, he decided to give it a try. He followed His Holiness' words perfectly and was taken aback at his friend's genuine delight, "How good of you, I badly need a friend like you. Why don't you join me in the business and take a share in the profit?"

This pleasant surprise prompted him to go to His Holiness express his thanks. He went for Darshan and said, "One day
I was listening to Your discourse. You advised on how to overcome jealousy. I implemented the same in real life and reaped a great result. I seek Your blessings to do well in the new business."

His Holiness answered with a bewitching smile, "So you do agree that this Swamiji is not altogether impractical, don't you?". He then blessed him with a fruit. The man was completely taken aback.
