Waste not a single moment in sensual enjoyment - Parable of HH.Sivananda

Parable of The Unwary Deer

A deer was playing with its mate in a garden full of flowers. It was nibbling at grass. Its attention completely absorbed in the sweet humming of the bees, it failed to notice the hungry wolves approaching it, as also the hunter coming towards it with his arrow pointed at it. The hunter released the arrow and killed it in a minute, before it could realise its fate.

Similar is the case with a deluded man. His life on earth revolves round eating and procreation. Just as in the garden there are plenty of flowers, so also in the man's house there are beautiful women whose beauty lasts but for a short time and fades soon like the evening flower. The man, absorbed in the sweet talks of his wife and children, is oblivious of the wolves of years that are ready to devour his life. Here comes the hunter, Death, who, with one arrow, sends the man to the other world, before he could ever enquire into the nature of the Self.

O man, wake up and meditate on God. Waste not a single moment in sensual enjoyment.
