Dear all,
Greetings and Namaste. Saturn is transiting from Sagittarius (Dhanus) to Capricorn (Makara) on Dec 27, 2020 as per Vakkia Panchang, an almanac popularly followed in South India for personal horoscopes (as per the other popular Panchang (Ganitha Panchang), the transit already happened in January 2020).
Although Saturn gives results based on one's horoscope which, in turn, is based on one's own karma, he is feared the utmost as he is said to give good results only in 3 houses out of 12 and stays for almost 3 long years in each house 🙂. He is especially dreaded when he transits 4th (Ardhashtama), 8th (Ashtama), 12th, 1st, 2nd houses (Sade Sathi) . It is also said that the lessons he inculcates on the individuals in whatever he bestows are said to be indelible and life-long. But it is also true that he bestows abundantly when in good places (which again is due to accumulated karma).
During the transits, the temples where Lord Sani has special significance (Thirunallar, Kuchanur, Shani Singanapur, etc.) are flooded with devotees who make earnest endeavor endeavor to endear Lord Shani with august prayers! One such Kshetra is Chyutapuri - it is currently known by the name Vazhuvur and is a small village near Myladuthurai, Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu. The greatness of this Kshetra is mentioned in many Puranas (Shiva Purana, Skanda Purana and Padma Puranas in many chapters). It is considered one among the 8 Kshetras equivalent to Kailasa (and known as Dakshina Kailasa) and withstood Pralaya (cosmic dissolution). This Kshetra also has a shrine for Kankala Bhairava. This Kshetra is also counted one among the 8 Virasthanas .
The attached short hymn on Lord Shani is said be taken from Chyutapuri Mahatmyam within Shiva Mahapuranam by Kalmashapada (a Chola King) whose hands and legs were amputated by another king maliciously. Kalmashapada worshipped Lord Krittivasa in Vahuvur temple as well as Lord Shani there. In the end all his tribulations end with the grace of Lord Shani and Lord Shiva.
Kalmashapada prays to Lord Shani that one who worships him with this prayer thrice a day should not be troubled by Lord Shani regardless of the magnitude of bad disposition and Lord Shani grants the boon.
May We All Pray To Lord Shani to be merciful to all of us and this world with this prayer!
With Best Regards & Prayers,
K. Muralidharan Iyengar (Murali)
