Dear All,
Greetings and Namaste. Today is one of the most important festivals/occasions - Ashadhi Ekadashi - in Pandharpur. Tomorrow marks Panduranga Darshanam in Pandharpur Temple and in that connection I am happy to share a very rare royal prayer (Vittala Stavaraja) on Lord Panduranga from Sri Rudra Puranam, Vamakeshvara Tantra.
As we all know, Pandharpur is one of the most holiest shrines of India and one of the 108 Tirupathis - no less in importance to Tirupathi (Venkatachala). Many of us might have read the famous Bhakta Vijaya book which extols famous Bhagavatas such as Shaku Bhai, Namadev, Raka Bhai, etc. For me, it is one of the first books I have ever read in my childhood!
Pandharpur is apparently mentioned in several purans - Padma Purana, Bhavishyottara Purana, Rudra Purana, etc. Though the Padma Purana portions are not be seen in the print edition, the following are separately available :
- Vittala Ashtottaram
- Vittala Sahasranama
- Vittala Kavacham
There is also Vittala Hrudayam (Bhavishyottara Puranam) and Vittala Stavaraja (from Rudra Puranam). There are several stutis by Bhagavatas - though not very easily available in the South.
