Dear All,
Namaste. As Sri Vinayaka Chaturthi is just round the corner, I have pleasure in sharing some very very rare and potent Stotras on Lord Ganesha. May Lord Ganesha bless us all.
1. Ganesha Stuti - Brahma Vaivarta Puranam - Lord Vishnu's Stuti on Lord Ganesha. He declares that neither He nor 1000-faced Sehsa, nor Brahma nor Saraswati can describe the greatness of Lord Ganesha.
2. Samsara Mohana Ganesha Kavacham - Brahma Vaivarta Puranam - this is a very rare Ganesha Kavacham given by Lord Krishna to Lord Narayana and Lord Narayana gives this to Shanaishchara. One can understand the sanctity of this Kavacham by going through the Phalashruti.
3. Vinayaka Prarthana - Ikshvaku - Nrusimha Puranam - this is another rare Stotra by King Ikshvaku (Son of Manu and Lord Rama's dynasty). King Ikshvaku prays to Lord Ganesha when he was about to do penance on Lord Vishnu to have his Divine Vision.
4. Siddhi/Buddhi Ashtottarams - these are available in a rare manuscript called Vinayaka Tantra.
A few snippets on Lord Ganesha :
- There is rarely any text which does not mention about Lord Vinayaka - be it Shaivite or Vaishnavite. In fact, the hard-core Vaishnavite Puranam (Varaha Puranam) contains a chapter on Lord Ganesha and his worship. So, innumerable will be the stutis on him and likewise for Carnatic songs - hundreds and hundreds of Kritis (not to forget the most famous Vatapi Ganaptim Bhaje in Hamsadhwani)
- Ganesha Puranam is exclusively dedicated to Lord Ganesha and is considered an Upa-puranam (though it contains stutis on other deities too). There is also reference to another Upa-purana called Mudkala Puranam. I am not quite sure whether these two are different from each other or one and the same (like Vayu Purana and Shiva Samhita).
- There is a very rare manuscript (handwritten) called Vinayaka Tantra and contains several rare Ashottatarams, Trishatis and Sahasranama on Ganesha/Siddhi/Buddhi. In this Tantra, Lord Ganesha is also worshipped as Sharadesha (consort of Sharada) and has a set of Ashtottaram/Trishati/Sahasranama.
- Lord Ganesha is said to be available in 16 and 32 forms. A few of the forms have their own Ashtottara, Trishati, Sahasranama, Mantras etc. - e.g. Vighna Raja, UcchiShta Ganapati, etc. Not all forms are meant for common worship - for example, Uchishta Ganapti worship is only for the initiated.
- It is given that one who performs Shodasa Maha Ganapati Homa once gets rid of all difficulties in life.
- Similarly one who performs Maha Ganapati Moola Mantra Homa every Friday morning (before Sunrise) for a year will never face any difficulty in life as it completely neutralizes all karma.
- Thousands and Thousands will be the temples for Lord Ganesha. In South, the no. of ancient temples where Heis the presiding deity are few (whereas in North, it is plenty). Even some of the Vaishnavite Tirupathis have Lord Ganesha idols installed (examples : Madurai Kallazhagar Koil, Thiruvidanthai near Chennai, etc.)
Request For Help
1. I am given to understand that Markandeya Puranam has a separate Varada Ganesha Sahasranama on one of the forms of Ganesha (Varada Ganesha). I have the printed version of Markandeya Puranam and I can't find this. This seems to be available in manusciript form in one of the libraries (like Theosophical Society in Adyar/Chennai) in North India. If any of you have access to such libraries, it will be very helpful if you can send a copy of the transcript or image. I can help with codification and distribution.
2. I also understand that there is a separate Apamarjana (or Vyapohana) Stotram on Lord Ganesha. If you any of have a copy of it, can you please share it with me? [Note : Vyapohana/Apamarjana Stotra is used for getting rid of ones sins by chanting this stotra with a Ghatam installed and later sprinkling the holy water on self (or bathing). Vishnu Apamarjana Stotram is available both in Padma Puranam and Vishnu Dharmottara Puranam; Shiva Vyapohana Stavam is available in Linga Puranam; but I am not sure where Ganesha's is available.
3. If you are aware of stutis on the other 16/32 forms, please let me know.
Thanks & Regards,
Murali
