Dear All,Greetings and Namaste. The Hindu solar new year (sauramAna samvatsara) and Sri Rama Navami fall on two consecutive days (April 14th/15th, 2016) and in this connection I am glad to attach a short prayer on Lord Rama by Devas taken from Padma Puranam, Patala Khanda, Chapter 5. Lord Rama mentions that one who chants this hymn twice a day sees fear from enemies, poverty, disease eliminated resulting in happy life.May I take this occasion to wish you, your family, kith and kin a very Happy and Prosperous Durmukhi Year! May The New year herald an era of endless prosperity, happiness, achievement and fulfillment in all walks of your lives. At a time the world is challenged by extremism, terrorism, religious intolerance and all forms of divisive forces, it is the bounden duty of the followers of Sanatana Dharma to follow the scriptures and lead by example - sarve janAH sukhino bhavantu (May all people live happily and comfortably).Incidentally, North East India, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, etc. also celebrate their new year next week (April 13th/14th) - which is known as Songkran - a word which originated from sankrAnti (Sanskrit) - passage of sun from one sign to another. Similar to Holi, drenching people with water is a symbolic activity during Songkran to signify washing away of impurities and sins and purifying oneself. In Indonesia/Bali, there are Tirthas for purification as holy waters in India (Tirtha Gangga, Tirtha Empul) as belowMay I wish you a very happy new year and Sri Rama Navami!
