                                   N. Vijay Siva  is an eminent vocalist who is a disciple of the  D.K.Jayaraman. He was born to Akhila Siva and A.N.Siva on 29 March 1967.  Vijay Siva went to Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan Senior Secondary School, Chennai. He graduated with a first class from Vivekananda College, Chennai and secured Masters degree in Commerce from Madurai Kamarajar University.

Recalled Siva " My forefathers hailed from Tiruvaiyaru, But my mother, a Gold Medallist from the Central College of Carnatic Music imperceptibly spread her influence on the artistic side. My grandmother can sing very well and in those days when she was teaching her children, my musical education started by just listening to them. "

                                       *********************************

At the age of four, he exhibited a rare intuitive capacity to identify ragas. He first learnt Carnatic music from his mother, Vijay Siva later learnt music from D.K.Pattammal and D.K.Jayaraman.  Siva is also an accomplished mridangist and received training for this—for ten years--  from Kumbakonam Rajappa Iyer.He  became a B high AIR artiste. He played on the mridangam to vocalists singing on AIR.

                                       *****************************

Vijay Siva has performed in all major Sabhas in India and has also presented concerts in America, Canada and Singapore. He  has received over  100 prizes for both Carnatic music and mridangam including first Prize for Thevaram ,Tiruvachakam  and Thiruppugazh in 1974 and the coveted "Rajaji Tamboora" in 1981 from Tamil Isai Sangam, Chennai. He also received first prizes in Classical and Light Classical Music Competitions  which were conducted by AIR. He was awarded titles like "Isai Peroli" (1995) from Karthik Fine Arts, and received the "Youth Award for Excellence" by Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer Trust in 1995, and was the first recipient of "Kalki Krishnamurthy Award (1996)" presented by the Kalki Krishnamurthy Memorial Trust, Chennai. He was awarded the Sangeetha Kalasarathy title by Parthasarathy Swami Sabha.

                              ************************************

Siva did  not add the titles conferred on him before his name, as a principle."My Guru D.K. Pattamal and my father advised me against adding the titles conferred on me as a prefix to my name and I have been following it for years now. All I want to do is deliver good quality music," he said."

                                 **********************************

Mridangam exponent Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman said  Siva not only sang with perfection but also understood the meaning of compositions. "He knows exactly how to emote and where. It is rare to find such a well-informed musician at such a young age," he said. Carnatic musician P.S. Narayanaswamy said . Siva was one of the few musicians who could sing the kritis by heart. "He knows thousands of kritis but not once have I seen him refer to a book or piece of paper," he said.

                                            ********************************

Vijay Siva and some young associates have  launched a scheme to build up a rasika clientele by visiting schools and kindling the interest of children through Quiz , Contests, etc.
