Yadagirigutta is  town in Nalgonda district in  Andhra Pradesh. There are popular Puranic  and traditional accounts of this Shrine. There is mention of the origin of this temple in the Skanda Purana, one of the famous 18 Puranas.

Sri Mahavishnu emerged from  the pillar as per the wish  of Bhakta Prahladha and killed Hiranya Kashipu, who is father of Prahladha, In olden days Sri Yada Maharshi son of Sri Rshyashrunga Maharshi with the Blessings of Anjaneya Swamy had performed great penance for Lord Narasimha Swamy. After securing blessing for his penance Lord Narasimha had come into existence in Five Avatharas called as Sri Jwala Narasimha, Sri Yogananda Narasimha, Sri Ugra Narasimha, Sri Gandaberunda Narasimha, Sri Lakshmi Narasimha. As such this is known as "Pancha Narasimha Kshetram".

Devotees  worship this deity with sincerity and get solutions for  problems faced by them in regarding their "Graha", the difficulties through evil spirits and  all mental problems. Cures are effected through herbal medicines and fruits, flowers and Tulasi Teertham.

Sri Lakshminarasimha Swamy Temple   is situated on a hillock  60 kilometers from Hyderabad. The birthday of Lord Narasimha is celebrated on 28 April every year. Lord Narasimha is also known as Yadagiri, hence the name Yadagirigutta. The sanctum sanctorum or  Garbhagriha is located in a cave, under a huge slating rock, which covers half the abode.

A Glowing bright light at the sikharam of Garbha Griha  of this cave temple is the golden Sudarshana Chakra (about 3 ft x 3 ft) of Lord Vishnu . The adornment as well as the weapon is a symbol by which this temple is identified from as far as 6 km. It is said that many years ago the Chakra moved in the direction from which the devotees came as if like a compass guiding them towards the temple.

According to  belief , Lord Narasimha  has taken on the role of a "doctor" and is known as "Vaidya Narasimha". Numerous instances are cited of the Lord appearing in the dreams of the devotees, and administering medicines and operating on the patients and blessing them with good health. Many devotees recount vivid dreams in which the Lord came to heal them from chronic or terminal illnesses, as well as mental and emotional problems.

Another Legend has it that Sriman Narayana, pleased with Yada's penance, sent Sri Anjaneya to direct the rishi to a holy spot, where the Lord appeared to him in the form of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha . This spot is marked by a temple located at the foot of the Yadagiri hillock, and is located about 5 km from the present temple. There the sage worshipped the Lord for many years.

LATEST

This Temple will become  the equivalent of the original Tirupati Temple.

It has been decided to develop the popular hill shrine of Lakshminarasimha Swamy here on six acres. This follows Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao's visit to the temple .As per the plan, construction of a new kalyana mandapam, pravachana mandapam and other structures will be taken up without touching the sanctum sanctorum. It was also decided to demolish all the existing structures and build new ones in granite.

The temple premises will be developed 230 feet each towards north and south and 300 feet each in east and west direction. The development of the hill shrine on six acres would facilitate devotees to spend considerable time on the temple premises after offering prayers. Another eight acres of land is available in the vicinity to construct an administrative office, cottages and shopping complexes . The Chief Minister has given his consent to the design which will also be sent for approval by Chinna Jeeyar Swamy and other experts.

The Stapathi said Agama Sastra and vaastu would be followed in the constructions. Mr. Rao wanted the temple administration to include beautification of tank at Rayagiri and four-lanes of Bhongir – Yadagirigutta stretch in the development plan.

A release from the CMO later said Mr. Rao decided to allot no less than Rs 100 crore in budget every year to develop Yadagirigutta as a comprehensive spiritual centre. He wanted flower bearing trees all along the four roads leading to the hill. A public announcement system would be set up for mantras, devotional songs and announcements by the temple.

Along with the development of the temple, a kalyana mandapam, yagashala, pravanashala, vratashala and a kitchen would be constructed at the hill top.

The cottages would be constructed with at least 500 rooms. A parking lot would also be set up near the temple. Facilities for mass Satyanarayana Vratam should be created.

The temple is highly revered in the Telangana region.

GENERAL COMMENTS

We went on a private visit to all the temples and were put to difficulty since the only language used was Telugu in all places. It would be helpful if Notices, Boards are put up in Hindi and English also. Temple staff should also know more languages.
