Rama once asked Hanuman who is He [for Hanuman]:

Hanuman replied:
Deha-buddhya tu daso'smi,
jiva-buddhya tvad amsakah,
atma-buddhya tvamevaham
iti me nischita matih:

You are asking me, Lord, who I am.
If you regard me as a body, I am a servant of yours;
if you consider me as a little consciousness, a jiva, I am a part of you;
but if you think I am the Pure Spirit, I am yourself.

(Pujya Swami Dayananda Saraswathi did a one week course on this
at Arsha Vidya Gurukulam, Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania, USA)

-- Last question on a satsang --
Swamiji, please tell us in brief what is Adwaita / Visishta adwaita / Dwaita?

Pujya Swamiji:
I have time for only a brief answer:
I am the Wave. You are the Ocean---Dwaita
I (wave) am part of the Ocean--Visishta Adwaita
I and You (wave and Ocean) are nothing but Water--Adwaita
----------------------------------------------------------

The fundamental difference in these faiths or mathas is with reference to
jeevaatma and paramaatmaa. When Jeevatma attains moksha –
According to Dwaitham - it sits near paramaatma
- tila tandulavat. Just like tilam (ellu) and tandulam (arisi).

According to Vishishtaadwaitham - the jeevatma joins paramaatma but does not merge with it - laakshaa -kaashthavat - just like lac and a piece of wood.

According to Adwaitham - jeevatma merges with paramaatma like water and milk - neera ksheeravat. Water gets all the qualities of milk and cannot be distinguished.
