MEANING -
Mountains look enormous and very nice when we see them from a distance. Prostitutes look very beautiful when they have done nice make up. Stories pertaining to war are very interesting to listen. All these three things are interesting from distance only. Therefore, it is better be away from them.
MORAL -
· SubhAshitakAra cautions one to be away from mountains, prostitutes and war. Mountains are compared to that of human desires. We aspire for something which is beyond our reach (like mountains situated far away) and in turn when we don't achieve, we get frustrated and dissatisfied in life.
· And we must not get carried away by looks of a decorated prostitute, who can be again compared to worldly things. If you go after them, your life will get ruined. One has to be very cautious.
· War is compared to the inner war in our mind – ari shadd wairigalu – kAma, krOdha, mada, matsara, lobha and mohA. We must protect ourselves from these elements who create war in our mind. These are our internal enemies.
Chapter 6, Shloka 6 quotes as below
Meaning - For a person who has conquered the mind, the mind will be his best friend, but one who has not conquered, his mind will remain the greatest enemy of him. (He would rather be the servant of his own mind).
