Shri Gurubhyo Namaha Harihi OM ...,
While doing pranayama when performing Sandhyavandane, we chant "DASHA PRANAVA MANTRA yukta GAYATRI MANTRA", which means we recite the Gayatri Mantra along with 10 Pranava's. Now we need to chant Rushis, Chandas and Devata for chanting this mantra also.
Rushi: Parabrahma Rushi (HEAD)
Chandas: Devi Gayatri (FACE)
Devata: Paramatma Devata (HEART)
Chandas: Devi Gayatri (FACE)
Devata: Paramatma Devata (HEART)
Method of Performing Pranayama Stepwise:
1. Exhale from your Right Nostril (Rechaka)
2. Inhale twice as much as Rechaka from your left Nostril (Puraka)
3. Hold the breath twice as much as Puraka (Kumbhaka)
4. Exhale the breath (Rechaka)
2. Inhale twice as much as Rechaka from your left Nostril (Puraka)
3. Hold the breath twice as much as Puraka (Kumbhaka)
4. Exhale the breath (Rechaka)
Now the complete procedure.
Chant this first: Pranavasya Parabrahma Rushihi (touch head), Devi Gayatri Chandaha (touch Face), Paramatma Devata (touch heart) pranayame viniyogaha, then Rechaka, Puraka, then Hold your Breat (Kumbhaka) while holding chant the Dashapranava Manta yukta Gayatri Mantra either once, twice, thrice depending upon your capacity, then
exhale. Dont Recite this mantra when you are inhaling or exhaling. You need to recite this mantra only while holding (Kumbhaka).

When you Exhale from your left Nostril, you release impure air from Pingala Nadi (Right side), while Inhaling you intake pure air from Ida Nadi (Left side), while holding your Breath you hold it in your Sushumna Nadi which runs at the centre.
You should perform this evertime you do a Sankalpa, and before and after you do Gayatri Japa, that comes upto 5 times in your Sandhyavadane ... TRIKALA SANDHYAVANDANE and you do it 15 times a day !!!
To perform pranayama please contact a competent Madhwa Acharya its a delicate process. Pranayama is very essential for reciting Vedas also.
