Celibacy

" The earth may give up scent; water may give up taste; light likewise may give up light; the air may give up the quality of touch; the sun may give up light; the comet may give up heat, the ether may likewise give up sound; the moon may give up its cool rays; indra may give up valor; the lord of virtue (yama) may give of virtue; but I (bhIshhma) can on no account even think of giving up the truth (i.e., the vow of maintaining life - long celibacy).  "

त्यजेच्च पृथिवी गन्धम् आपश्च रसम् आत्मनः ज्योतिस्तथा त्यजेद्रूपं वायुः स्पर्सगुणं त्यजेत् प्रभां समुत्सृजेद् अर्को धूमकेतुस्तथोऽष्णताम त्यजेत् छब्दं तथाऽकाशः सोमः शीतांशुतां त्यजेत् विक्रमं वृत्रहा जह्याद्धर्मं जह्याच्च धर्मराट् न त्वहं सत्यम् उत्स्रष्टुं व्यवसेयं कथं चन
