===================
It is said that in the Smritis,Sage Atri defined brahminhood clearly.
Janmanaa Jaayatey Soodraha
Samskaaraat Dwija Uchyatey
Veda Paaddee Bhavet Vipraha
Brahma Gnaanati Brahmanaha
By birth every one is a Soodra.Through various types of Samskaaraas,he
becomes a
Dwija (twice born).
Through studies of scriptures he becomes a Vipra (scholar).Through realisation
of Supreme Spirit (Brahma Gnaana),
he becomes a Brahmin.
In the very early period, a Brahmin was a person who had attained highest
spiritual knowledge. This was an exytremely difficult path
of discipline of body, mind and intellect.People irrespective of birth or
class, who dedicated themselves to such an austere life were
recognised as Brahmins.
May be Sage Viswamitra can be cited as a great example of this tradition (a
person becoming a Brahmin than born as one).He was
born as a Kshatriya, who became a Brahmin after attaining Brahmagnaana and went
on to compose Gayatri Mantra.

Happy moments, praise God.
Difficult moments, seek God.
Quiet moments, worship God.
Painful moments, trust God.
Every moment, thank God
