MERU PARVATHA

Friends,

During Mahaa Sankalpam time on UPAKARMA DAY we say " मेरोः दक्षिणे पार्श्वॆ '(
MEROH DAKSHINE PAARSWE ) . For those who do not know where is this GREAT M ERU
PARVATHA, if this article help in any way , I am gratified.

If we check up any good ATLAS we will not be able to see this GREAT MERU
PARVATHA . However, Hindus/Jains and Buddists consider this great mountain as
sacred. This mountain is described as having 84,000 Yojanas which is roughly
about 672,000 miles .

As per our Puranic Legends , this MERU PARVATHA and MARUTH (VAAYU) were great
friends. But Sage Narada who is KALAHA PRIYA (कलह प्रिय ) wanted to create
friction between them and hence incited VAAYU to teach a lesson to the Mountain
which considered itself as imperishable. MARUTH succumbed to the dirty trick
and started blowing with full force but Garuda was saving the Great mountain
from disaster by spreading its wings against the wind. But, after about an year
or so , he also abandoned and the WIND blew up the mountain to pieces . One
piece created the LANKA.

We find this MERU PARVATHA described in the SOORYA SIDDANTHA. Here it says thus
BHOOGOLA MADHYE IN THE LANDOF JAMBOO DWEEPA MERU PARVATHA IS SITUATED. Further
in Soorya Siddantha we find the POLES described as SUMERU AND KUMERU.

If we can perceive that long, long ago when Vedas were written and when men
were in tribal stage a mountain called MERU existed in BHOOGOLA MADHYE i.e. on
the centre of earth where the EQUATOR lies, our ancient valuable literatures
can be considered as true. At that time there was no African country, Lanka
Indonesia etc. Most probably due to some SEVERE TSUNAMI , the huge mountain
might have broken to pieces there by creating many continents. The proof which
I can give is , that there is a MOUNTAIN called MERU although not so big, in
Tanzaniawhich is very near to the equator.

Once all of you agree to this proposition, we can consider ourselves on the
southern side of MERU other wise it is difficult to be consider that we are on
the southern side of MOUNTMERU
