Dear All,
.
Greetings and Namaste. The beauty of Dakshinayan (the 6-month period from Jul-Jan) is that it is replete with festivals and Vrats in Sanatana Dharma.
Before I get on with the context of today's posting, I would like to make a correction to my previous posting relating to Kalki Jayanti (shared a couple of days ago). The hymn was wrongly attributed to Bhavishya Purana - it should read as Padma Purana. I started with one hymn in Bhavishya Purana but later chose the one from Padma Purana but failed to change the reference. Apologies.
Sri Mahalakshmi Vrat falls on this Friday (31-Jul-2020) and in this context I am delighted to share a rare Puja Vidhanam for Sri Mahalakshmi taken from Srimad Devi Bhagavatam, Skandha 9 and Chapter 42. The famous Mahalakshmi Stuti (namaH kamala-vAsinyai nArAyaNyai namo namaH ...) appears at the end of this Puja Vidhanam (not shared as part of this posting). It also prescribes performing Moola mantra Japa for 10 lakh times.
The Puja Vidhi includes most of the commonly used 16 Upacharas (services offered as part of the Puja) but it includes many from 32/64 Upacharas and leaves out some. Some Upcharas appear twice (e.g. Vasanam, Bhushanam, etc.). I am not able to understand the Upachara (jIvanam - which literally means infusing life) as I don't see that in the 64-upacharas list (upacharas). The Upachara Neivedyam (offering food and fruits) is very elaborate and mentions offering of cooked rice, sweet rice cooked with jaggery and ghee, ghee, jaggery, etc.).
Some of the Upacharas that are not typically part of the usual 16 Upacharas are - sugandhi tailam (bathing with perfumed oil), vasanam (offering of cloth), cAmara (fanning with hand fan), jIvanam (not sure what it is), talpam (offering couch to relax).
May we pray to Sri Mahalakshmi with this beautiful and elaborate Puja Vidhanam and seek Her blessing for abundance in every aspect of life!
